Toyota Tundra recall: Tonneau cover can detach while driving

Share

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles that may be equipped with a Toyota genuine accessory tonneau cover. For this Toyota Tundra recall, the tonneau cover attachment joints may come loose and allow the cover to detach.

A tonneau cover that detaches while driving can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Interim notification letters instructing owners to remove the tonneau cover if their vehicles are so equipped, are expected to be mailed March 31, 2023. The remedy is currently under development. Owners will receive a second notice once the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota’s number for this recall is 23TB03/23TA03.

We have previously reported on the 2022 Tundra being recalled for loose axle nuts. The 2022 Tundra currently has six recalls, and the 2023 Tundra has three recalls. If you own a 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra, be sure to consult the NHTSA recalls portion of the website and type in the specific VIN of your SUV to see if this current recall applies to your vehicle.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
