A recall of 565,691 Ford Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs for an engine-compartment wiring harness that may become damaged, short-circuit, and start a fire.
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2026 Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles. The engine-compartment wiring harness may become damaged and short-circuit.

Descriptive Information
Affected vehicles may have damage to the engine-compartment wiring harness and were produced between Sept. 23, 2020, and June 28, 2026. Ford reviewed plant records to identify the population included in the recall.
These vehicles were not produced in VIN order. Information about whether a specific vehicle is included can be obtained by calling Ford’s toll-free number (1-866-436-7332) or by contacting a Ford or Lincoln dealer. Dealers can check individual vehicles through Ford’s Online Automotive Service Information System database.
A total of 565,691 Ford Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles are affected.
Description of defect or noncompliance:
A short in the engine-compartment wiring harness may generate heat or a spark, potentially causing a fire in the engine-compartment area.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
If exposed circuits in the engine-compartment wiring harness short to ground and begin arcing, the resulting heat or spark could produce smoke or ignite nearby flammable components. Smoke or fire coming from the engine compartment increases the risk of an injury or crash.
Description of the cause:
Movement between the engine-compartment wiring harness and nearby components, combined with insufficient abrasion protection on the harness, may wear through its protective covering and expose the wiring.
Once the internal circuits are exposed, intermittent electrical shorts may create arcing.
Identification of any warning that can occur:
Following a short-circuit, a driver may notice smoke coming through the vehicle’s air vents or see a warning message in the instrument cluster. These warnings may occur before flames become visible on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
Chronology
On June 18, 2026, Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group opened an investigation into fire incidents involving 2021-2026 Ford Bronco vehicles. The investigation consolidated several existing workstreams involving similar reports.
During the investigation, Ford identified similarities among certain fire incidents in which customers reported smoke coming through the air vents and flames appearing on the passenger side of the engine compartment while driving. Further analysis found evidence that at least some of the fires originated in that area.
Ford’s investigation identified seven Bronco Raptor fires and eight base Bronco fires that may have started on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
Investigators examined possible causes and determined movement between the engine-compartment wiring harness and nearby components could damage the harness. Insufficient abrasion protection may allow the outer covering to wear through, exposing the internal wiring. Intermittent shorts involving the exposed circuits can then create electrical arcing and potentially ignite nearby flammable components.
Ford inspected more than 80 Bronco vehicles during the investigation. A small number showed evidence of rubbing or chafing on the engine-compartment wiring-harness covering.
Ford also studied the differences in physical architecture and suspension characteristics between the Bronco Raptor and other Bronco models. Vehicle inspections, computer-aided engineering analysis and vibration testing were used to evaluate how those differences affected conditions underneath the hood.
The company determined wiring harnesses in Bronco Raptor vehicles were more likely to experience chafing contact than those in base Bronco models. However, vibration testing on base Broncos also produced wear on the harness covering that could eventually expose the internal circuits.
Ford subsequently introduced additional protective covering for the wiring harness into production.
As of July 13, 2026, Ford was aware of two warranty reports, three field reports, one customer service report, four Vehicle Owner Questionnaires and 10 legal claims connected to the issue. Those records represented 15 incidents in which Ford had evidence that a fire may have originated at the engine-compartment wiring harness.
The incidents occurred between Oct. 15, 2024, and June 20, 2026.
On July 13, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Description of remedy program:
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer. Dealers will add convolute sheathing and abrasion-resistant tape to the engine-compartment wiring harness.
There will be no charge for this service.
How remedy component differs from recalled component:
Repaired vehicles will have sufficient protective covering on the engine-compartment wiring harness to prevent chafing and future short-circuits involving exposed wiring.
Description of recall schedule:
Ford expected to notify dealers on July 23, 2026. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning Aug. 24, 2026, and the mailing process is expected to be completed by Aug. 28, 2026.
