Ahead of the order books re-opening, the Ford Motor Co. has revealed the 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro base price isn’t less than $40k any longer.

The big news for the full-size electric pickup truck was the base price of $39,974 without destination. Now, the entry-level F-150 Lighting Pro will be offered at $48,769 with destination fees.

Ford says it revealed pricing ahead of the order books re-opening to help customers choose the right model.

“Current order holders awaiting delivery are not impacted by these price adjustments,” said Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer of the Model E division. “We’ve announced pricing ahead of re-opening order banks so our reservation holders can make an informed decision around ordering a Lightning.”

The 2023 Lightning versus the 2022 Lightning prices out like this:

Model 2023 Model Year (Including $1,795 Destination) 2022 Model Year (Including $1,695 Destination) Difference
Pro $48,769 $41,669 $7,100
XLT $61,269 $54,669 $6,600
XLT High $70,269
XLT High Extended Range $82,769 $74,169 $8,600
Lariat $76,269 $69,169 $7,100
Lariat Extended Range $87,749 $79,169 $8,580
Platinum Extended Range $98,699 $92,569 $6,130

Ford credits the price increases due to “significant material cost increases and other factors.”

This is consistent with news we have been hearing and reporting on with battery material costs skyrocketing due to demand.

10 more miles of range for 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning

In other news, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning will see an increase of 10 miles in the standard-range battery. This puts the estimated miles at 240 instead of the 230.

Ford says it was able to get the extra range by making heated seats a standard feature with the base battery allowing the automaker to reduce HVAC load on the battery.

Basically, the heated seats should allow people to turn down the heat faster allowing the battery range to be longer.

Another 2023 change: Pro Trailer Hitch Assist

Pro Trailer Hitch Assist is an available option on the Lightning. This system makes hooking up a trailer a lot simpler with the truck doing the work of steering, throttle and braking to get the ball over the hitch.

This feature comes with the Tow Technology Package option for the Pro, XLT and Lariat trims. It is standard on the Lariat Extended Range and Platinum grades.

Finally, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning will come with new colors Avalanche Gray and Azure Gray metallic tri-coat. It drops the Atlas Blue, Ice Blue Silver and Smoked Quartz Metallic colors.

The bottom line

There is no real surprise here with pricing on everything skyrocketing, and this is especially true of electric vehicles and their technology needs of rare metals in batteries. These cost changes are simply being passed on to the customer.

Ford says reservations for the 2023 F-150 Lightning will open on Thursday, August 11.
