What’s been good for one, is now good for another with the Dodge Durango R/T HEMI Orange appearance package making its debut.
The Dodge Durango R/T is like great looking muscle car with the body of an SUV. While it doesn’t have the amazing power of its faster cousin, the 707-horsepower Dodge Durango Hellcat with it supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 (insert wide grin and man grunt), the Durango R/T employs the more sensible, albeit less impressive with 360-horsepower, 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine to kick it into gear.
Now, it is adding the HEMI Orange appearance package to further push the cool factor to another level on the three-row SUV. This, folks, isn’t a grocery getter.
One look at the unique orange and Gunmetal hood stripes with the Midnight Grey and orange exterior badging on the front should grab anyone’s eye unless you prefer a more neutered look like say a 2000s Toyota Camry.
For the rear, there are Satin Black taillights giving it a striking appearance while whipping around the city street corners at night breaking necks from lookie-loos trying to figure out what just roared past them.
The Durango R/T HEMI orange rides on a painted finish 20-inch Black Noise wheels highlighted by not red, oh no, but orange Brembo brake calipers with the Tow N Go package — one of two optional packages. Well, that is, until you burn the paint right off them.
Inside the cabin, once again Stellantis designers hit a home run with orange stitching on all three rows of seats including the SRT front seats and second-row captain’s chairs. You also get orange stitching on the steering wheel, doors, armrests, console lid, shifter boot and leather flat-bottom steering wheel. That’s right, unlike competitors who do just the front seats or maybe the doors as well, the orange stitching is carried throughout the entire cabin.
The Dodge brand’s three-row muscle car will sport a new look this summer: HEMI Orange. First introduced last year for the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, the popular appearance is now available for the 2022 Dodge Durango R/T HEMI Orange. (Courtesy of Stellantis North America)
But that’s not all! You can select from two packages like the aforementioned Tow N Go as well as the HEMI Orange Plus package.
This HEMI Orange Plus package doesn’t add more orange stitching, rather it includes a power sunroof, 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, advanced safety features and more.
On the other hand, the Tow N Go package, only available on all-wheel drive versions, adds advanced towing features, 20-inch Lights Out wheels, the orange Brembo brake calipers from above, Bilstein high performance suspension and additional features.
This all sounds great, but how much? The answer is not really that much to be honest. Dodge says the HEMI Orange is available for order now through dealerships for an additional $1,995. Opting for the HEMI Orange Plus adds $4,500 and the Tow N Go is $5,095. Those other packages are just a tad bit more than the Orange package by itself (insert sarcasm).
If there is one thing Dodge, and Stellantis for that matter do well, it is appearance packages. They take their same old, same old vehicle and add just enough style to give the look new life. This HEMI orange package would certainly be on my list if I was buying this SUV and for just $2k more, who wouldn’t want this cool look?
