The Mustang Mach-E has been a success for Ford Motor Company. It’s essentially sold out and is spending less than two weeks on average on dealer lots. And for those who ordered a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and didn’t get one, they can convert that order to a 2022 model year.
While those people may be disappointed the didn’t get the first model year of Ford’s all-electric crossover Mustang, they may benefit from some of the changes coming for 2022.
Ford just updated its website with all the details, and as expected, changes are minimal. But there is one big thing to note, specifically a slight increase in range.
The 2022 Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 has an EPA estimated-range of 314 miles with an extended-range battery and RWD. That is an uptick from the 305 range for the 21 model year. The 2022 Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 model is also now available with electric all-wheel drive and has standard heated seats and steering wheel.
Additionally, Mustang Mach-E with standard range has 70 kWh usable energy, and the available extended range now has 91 kWh usable energy.
Those numbers too are an improvement over previous numbers, which were 68 kWh and 88 kWh, respectively.
One thing is for sure, fans of the Mustang Mach-E have been vocal and loyal to the color palette offered so far. There have been some real passionate posts on MME forums devoted to Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange, lamenting those two bold colors were only available on the GT variant.
For 2022, Ford has changed that and made Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange available on all models. Additionally, Iced Blue Silver Metallic is new to the 2022 model year.
The Mustang Mach-E Premium Ice White Edition Appearance Package is also now available. Star White Metallic Tri-Coat exterior paint includes unique Star White sideview mirror caps and wheel lip moldings to ice-out the exterior. Front and center on the grille is an Oxford White pony badge, which also appears between the tri-bar taillamps. The package adds unique 19-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with Oxford White-painted pockets. Light Space Gray sets the cabin stage, appearing on the seats, center console and door-panel armrests. A Bright Silver hex-patterned instrument panel appliqué plus an Oxford White pony badge on the steering wheel add chill to the interior environment. Â
Production of the Mach-E at the Cuautitlan Assembly Plant (CAP) in Mexico will be increasing to a projected 200,000 units per year by the end of 2023. This is an increase from the 60,000 units Ford is able to manufacture as of now for the MME.
With production expected to pick up significantly, Ford is expecting to double the output of the Mach-E for 2022.
The 2022 Mustang Mach-E is now available for order with a starting MSRP of $43,895.
I know some people are growing weary of waiting for their pre-ordered 2021 Mustang Mach-E. And, alas, those people will now be taking ownership of a 2022. However, good things come to those who wait. The changes to the 2022 model may be small, but they’re meaningful.
And thankfully, Ford seems to be addressing the supply/demand issue for its successful electric crossover.
