The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra will keep Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, giving truck buyers a clear answer to one of the biggest questions surrounding GM’s next-generation infotainment systems. Both smartphone interfaces are part of the redesigned light-duty trucks’ new digital experience.
The confirmation comes after GM’s decision to drop the systems from new electric vehicles sparked criticism from drivers who wanted to keep their familiar phone apps. GM announced that shift in 2023, beginning with the Chevrolet Blazer EV and favoring built-in software developed with Google.
For the new trucks, the story includes larger displays, easier access to controls, expanded towing technology and a separate entertainment experience for front passengers.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto get deeper integration

CarPlay and Android Auto will appear in a large window alongside native truck functions, including trailering and vehicle status. GM’s announcement does not confirm their return to EVs that lack them.
“People really like CarPlay and Android Auto because they’re so user-centric,” said Michael Wahlstrom, GM’s executive director of software product management.
Wahlstrom said customers wanted that familiarity while retaining quick access to their vehicles’ capabilities. In GM’s Q&A about the redesign, he explained that the goal is to make the phone and truck functions feel like parts of one experience, reducing the need for drivers to think about which system they should use for a particular task.
The distinction matters because GM has also discussed eventually moving its gasoline vehicles away from phone projection. In an October 2025 statement to MacRumors, the company said CarPlay and Android Auto would remain available in gasoline vehicles for the foreseeable future, with a gradual transition toward more integrated software. It also said existing vehicles would retain support. The 2027 trucks now provide a concrete example of that continued availability.
Bigger displays come with simpler controls

Chevrolet previously announced that every 2027 Silverado 1500 will have a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch driver information display. That brings the larger digital cockpit to the entire lineup, including the Work Truck. ZR2 and High Country models add an 11.5-inch passenger screen, a head-up display and a rear camera mirror.
The Sierra Denali Ultimate adds its own hardware touches. Its 16.3-inch center display articulates to reveal hidden storage, while the passenger screen has a movable cover. A 15-inch head-up display and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror join the main screens. GMC’s claim of more than 60 inches of displays combines those individual diagonal measurements.
GM says customer complaints about confusing menus and hard-to-find controls shaped the software. Frequently used functions, including climate settings and camera views, are intended to stay within easy reach. Drivers can adjust maps and change audio sources directly from the home screen.
Physical controls remain part of the design. GM’s designers say they considered muscle memory, tactile feedback and customer expectations when deciding which functions belong on buttons and which work on a touchscreen. The physical headlight switch remains absent, and changing the headlight settings still requires using the center touchscreen.
Towing tools and Super Cruise expand

Connecting a trailer will automatically bring towing information into the interface. Hitch View assists with lining up a trailer, while underbody camera views help reveal off-road obstacles. Owners can also check trailer lights from their phones, including brake lights, turn signals and reverse lights.
A new 3D visualization will depict surrounding traffic, lane markings and road objects while available Super Cruise is active.
Chevrolet is expanding Super Cruise availability for 2027. The system will be standard on Silverado ZR2 and High Country and available on Silverado and Trail Boss trims. It supports hands-free towing on compatible roads, although automatic lane changes are unavailable while trailering. Drivers must remain attentive, and continued service requires a paid plan after the initial three-year period.
GMC lists Super Cruise as standard on Sierra AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate, and available on Elevation. Its included service period also runs three years before a plan purchase is required.
Passenger entertainment gets its own space

The front passenger screen supports services including Disney+, Hulu, YouTube and Amazon Music. GM says polarized screen technology prevents the driver from viewing that content while the truck is moving.
The native infotainment system also offers Google Gemini, Google Maps and apps through Google Play.
On Sierra Denali Ultimate, entertainment hardware includes a 16-speaker Bose system with speakers mounted in the front head restraints. GMC expects the first 2027 Sierra models to reach dealerships before the end of 2026.
Chevrolet has also targeted the end of 2026 for the new Silverado’s arrival. Its technology options extend to dual wireless phone charging and a reconfigurable center console.
GM plans to keep refining the interface through over-the-air updates and customer feedback. Starting with its high-volume trucks gives the company a large audience for the new system—and gives truck buyers continued access to the smartphone interfaces they already know.
