Chevrolet has officially revealed the redesigned 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500, bringing new V8 engines, a redesigned interior, updated styling and a revised trim lineup.
Expected to arrive in dealerships later this year, the next-generation Silverado continues to offer four powertrain options. Those include two new gasoline V8 engines, an updated TurboMax four-cylinder and the Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel.
While Chevrolet is holding back horsepower, torque, towing and payload figures for now, the company says the truck was designed to improve capability, technology and owner comfort.
New 5.7L and 6.6L V8 Engines Headline Powertrain Changes

Perhaps the biggest surprise, or non-surprise if you have been following our coverage, is Chevrolet’s continued investment in V8 power.
The 2027 Silverado introduces all-new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 engines (numerically a 350 cu. in. and 403 cu. in) that will be built at GM engine facilities in Flint, Michigan, Tonawanda, New York and St. Catharines, Ontario.
The Silverado lineup will include:
- New 5.7-liter V8
- New 6.6-liter V8
- Updated 2.7-liter TurboMax with a 10-speed automatic transmission
- Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel
Chevrolet has not yet released output figures but says the new engines were engineered to provide more power and torque while maintaining the durability Silverado owners expect.
They did state these engines join the newly announced Chevy Corvette LS6 6.7L V8. This is the engine design we theorized could be used in the new Silverado 1500 with its active-fuel management, port and direct injection, 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. It is pretty impressive for a naturally aspirated V8 engine.
I’d expect similar horsepower and torque numbers for the 6.6-liter V8 engine as well as continuing with the much discussed fuel management systems. We reported on a new design from a patent last January, 2026.
During the press conferences, Chevrolet representatives were asked about the much rumored hybrid or PHEV powertrains. They replied they liked their powertrain offerings and didn’t feel they needed hybrid or PHEV options to be competitive.
2027 Chevy Silverado Exterior Design Is Better-ish?

The 2027 Chevy Silverado receives a complete redesign with a new front end, revised lighting, new dual-exhaust design (bye, bye HDMI connector design) and trim-specific styling changes throughout the lineup.
Exterior updates include:
- New LED headlights and taillights
- Redesigned front fascia and grille treatments
- Revised wheel opening moldings
- Updated rocker panel styling
- Standard dual exhaust on Custom trims and above
Chevrolet is also restructuring the trim lineup for 2027. The LT trim disappears and is replaced by a Silverado trim level.
The seven-trim lineup consists of:
- Work Truck (WT)
- Custom
- Custom Trail Boss
- Silverado (replaces LT)
- Trail Boss
- ZR2
- High Country
The redesign is meant to be shaped to project a more “confident, modern truck presence.”
“The goal with the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect from Chevrolet,” Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak said.
They wanted each trim level to “express its own character while still feeling unmistakably Chevrolet.”
I want to see these trucks in person before I pass judgment, although, I will say it is odd GM continues to move away from the structural and visually superior look of the mirrors affixed to the triangle corners of the windows, opting to leave an odd blank shape, and move them on the doors. I understand this helps see over them when driving, but I can’t imagine this is going to look good in 10-15 years of use.
Interior Focuses on Technology and Comfort

The cabin receives one of the most significant updates in recent Silverado history especially after they dropped the ball with the Fourth Generation 2019 truck.
Every trim level now comes standard with:
- 16.3-inch center touchscreen
- 12.2-inch digital driver display
ZR2 and High Country models add:
- 11.5-inch passenger screen
- Head-up display
- Rear camera mirror
If you add all those inches up, get ready for this shock. In the highest trim level, that’s 60″ of digital display spanning from one side of the dash to the other. The idea is for the passenger to literally have a TV in front of them for long road trips complete with wireless headphones.
Cue the “I hate big screens in new trucks” comments.
One change many truck buyers may appreciate is improved seat comfort. During the media briefing, Chevrolet representatives replied to our question on seat comfort by stating the seats feature wider seat bottoms and additional cushioning. The updates sound similar to the changes Chevrolet recently made to the Tahoe and Suburban, which are noticeably improved for long-distance comfort.
Additional available features include dual wireless charging, heads-up-display, rear camera mirror, a configurable Multi-Flex center console which folds flat similar to Ford’s flat-folding center console and Super Cruise hands-free driving technology with trailering capability. The hands-free trailering capability is still the best in the business by far.
It looks like they carried over the same shifter on the column that’s electronic allowing for easy shifting and I’ll be curious to see/hear if they lowered the instrument panel like they did for the Tahoe/Suburban increasing visibility. The press conference and press release are pretty sparse for these details on the interior.
Finally, GM continues its move away from the convenient Apple Carplay and Android Auto, instead forcing owners to sign into their Google account and then download apps to their truck’s screens. Searching the press release for the word “Apple” turned up zero results. Chevrolet PR did reach out with the following statement: “Phone projection is offered in all our gas and diesel vehicles. That strategy has not changed.” The brand further elaborated that further details on infotainment will be made availavle closer to the launch of the truck.
ZR2 and Trail Boss Continue Off-Road Push

Chevrolet continues its off-road offerings with three lifted models: Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss and ZR2.
The ZR2 remains the flagship off-road truck and finally gets much needed upgrades. These include:
- 35-inch mud-terrain tires
- Two-inch factory lift
- Front and rear electronic locking differentials
- Multimatic DSSV dampers
- Dedicated off-road hood
- Torch Red-edged seatbelts
Putting 35″ tires on this truck will immediately help for the online forum debates between ZR2, Ford Raptor, Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Ram RHO/TRX fans. Interestingly, Chevrolet engineers said they have been racing this chassis already against the Ford Raptor and … have been beating it in off-road races.
Meanwhile, the Trail Boss receives:
- 34-inch mud-terrain tires
- Two-inch factory lift
- Unique off-road styling
- Exclusive interior treatments
The available ZR2 Bison package returns with additional skid plates, rocker protection and beadlock-capable wheels.
It is interesting how much Chevy has learned and leaned into off-road in the past several years. They are really starting to understand this customer base.
High Country Adds Silverado’s First Panoramic Sunroof

At the top of the lineup, the High Country gains several premium upgrades.
Highlights include:
- Panoramic sunroof
- New 22-inch wheels
- Real wood interior trim
- Natural Tan-Edged seatbelts
- Premium seating materials
- Unique interior color themes
The addition of the panoramic sunroof is easy to overlook for some buyers who could care less. However, when I do competitive reviews, it really does stand out as an odd miss from GM. In today’s truck market, the panoramic sunroof is a must for the highest trim level whether a customer uses it or not. Just the way the market is these days.
The High Country also receives revised exterior trim and a new Tritan Satin grille color and design intended to further separate it from the rest of the lineup.
Finally, it has a new decal that I still haven’t quite figured out what it is supposed to be. The press release says it is a “unique.”
Pricing and Specifications Still To Come

Chevrolet has not announced pricing, towing capacities, payload ratings or power figures for the 2027 Silverado 1500.
Those details are expected later this year before the truck reaches dealerships.
For now, the biggest takeaways are Chevrolet’s commitment to V8 power, a major interior technology upgrade and improvements to seat comfort that should address one of the more common complaints from current Silverado owners including myself.
