2024 Ford Ranger build and price tool live – here’s how I’d spec it

Share

The 2024 Ford Ranger build and price tool is now live with trim level pricing, colors, options and accessory pricing. Playing around with this tool, I built a pretty well equipped Ranger XLT for $45,995.

If you don’t recall, the 2024 Ford Ranger is new for the U.S. market this year and uses a lot of the same styling found in the global version, new powertrains and more. Plus, we get a Ranger Raptor model as well which is something we didn’t get before.

2024 Ford Ranger highlights by trim

Let’s recap the 2024 Ford Ranger first before I get into how I’d spec one.

First, four trims – XL, XLT, Lariat and Raptor.

Second, three powertrains with the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 coming later in the model year for XLT and Lariat and a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 standard on the Raptor trim.  All these engines are mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Third, all 2024 Ranger trucks will be crew cab, short bed only.

Fourth, starting prices look like this:

Series

MSRP + D&D

Total (Includes D&D)

XL SuperCrew

$32,565 + $1,595

$34,160

XLT SuperCrew

$35,505 + $1,595

$37,100

Lariat SuperCrew

$43,525 + $1,595

$45,120

Raptor SuperCrew

$55,365 + $1,595

$56,960

How I’d spec a 2024 Ford Ranger

For me, I really want the Ranger Raptor, yet the Ranger XLT is more of what I need. You can watch the embedded video below for all the details on the build.

The summary of the build is I’d go with a 4×4 Ranger XLT with the FX-4 off-road package, the basic towing package and the bed mounted side step. The bed mounted side step is only a $215 option and I think we will see a lot of trucks with this option on dealer lots. Kind of a no brainer for me.

I’d also go with the black cloth seats instead of the tan sandstone color to help hide dirt and stains for my northern climate. Those in the south or hotter climates will likely want the lighter color interior.

My truck is priced at $45,995 which seems high for a midsize truck except when you consider a Ford F-150 XLT with the similar build is easily a $60,000 truck in today’s market. The $15,000 price difference, smaller size ideal for garages and parking, easier to access bed versus a full-size truck are all factors helping me justify the price of the midsize truck.

The bottom line

The midsize truck market is like a powder keg ready to explode with sales as the big players roll out new trucks. Besides the new to us Ford Ranger, the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon and Toyota Tacoma are all new for this year. They are all pretty darn good and consumers are going to have a heck of a time choosing one over another.
