Buick revealed a new small SUV with a long wheelbase and low roofline. To us, the 2024 Buick Envista looks like a hatchback or even (gasp) a wagon. While it’s nearly identical in size to the Envision, it’s the first vehicle to fully incorporate Buick’s new design language and adds some interesting tech. All at an affordable price.

Here are five things to know about 2024 Buick Envista.

Base price for the 2024 Buick Envista is $23,495

Buick is positioning the 2024 Envista as the new entry-level SUV in its lineup, thus it is priced below the Encore GX. Pricing doesn’t include destination fees, which are $1,295 for 2023 at Buick. In addition to the base Preferred trim, the Envista will have Sport Touring and Avenir trims, priced at $25,195 and $29,695, respectively.

Since the 2024 Buick Envista is 11 inches longer than the Encore GX, you might be wondering how this is priced below the previous entry-level SUV. Well, the Encore GX has more cargo volume and multiple drivetrain/powertrain options. Envista is front-wheel drive only and comes with just one engine.

For reference, this is about $400 more than the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross.

Design based on the Wildcat concept

Though the 2024 Encore GX incorporates some of the new design language and adds the new Buick logo, the 2024 Buick Envista is the first vehicle to fully incorporate the design language we saw in the Wildcat EV Concept. This includes the new logo, new forward slanting grille, lower profile and evolved signature wing lighting on the exterior.

It has a 1.2L turbo

To keep things simple, the 2024 Buick Envista has just one drivetrain, FWD, and one powertrain, a 1.2-liter turbocharged, 3-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed automatic. This engine will deliver 136 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Envista is expected to average 30 MPG in combined driving.

If you want all-wheel drive, you’ll have to step up to the Encore GX.

Some standard safety included

The Buick Driver Confidence package will be standard on the 2024 Envista, and this includes automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, automatic high beams and a high-definition rear camera. Available safety features include blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert.

If you caught my Corolla Cross reference earlier, I will point out the available features are standard on that vehicle.

2024 Buick Envista available this summer

Buick expects to start production on the 2024 Envista in May of 2023, and it should be available for purchase later this summer. You can preview it now on Buick’s website, but you won’t be able to build and price until it’s available for purchase.

The bottom line

A new SUV from Buick that’s priced in the same bracket as a Toyota? That’s an interesting move for a near-luxury automaker. We’ll be curious to see what a base model actually looks like.
