A steering wheel that isn’t round? What is this thing anyway? The newly released photos of the new Tesla Model X refreshed interior leaves us with more questions than answers.

And yes, this is all being applied to the Model S as well, but we focus on pickup trucks and SUVs here (hence, the name), so today we’re talking about the Model X which is an all-electric SUV from Tesla.

One of the changes we like on the new Tesla Model X is the rear-seat entertainment screen. (Image courtesy of Tesla.com)

Watch movies while you drive

No really. The new Tesla Model X includes a screen so big you won’t be able to ignore it whether or not you’re using the new streaming capabilities to watch movies. Somehow the ability to watch movies up front seems like a bad idea. Something about the driver needing to keep their eyes on the road. Ring a bell anyone?

The new Tesla Model X interior does have a cool new entertainment screen in the back of the center console armrest so that the rear passengers can watch movies. This, we like this a lot.

That steering ‘wheel,’ though …

Sure, it’ll re-train you to keep your hands at 9 and 3 on the, well, (what should we call it now?) yoke. The only thing we can guess is maybe it gives the Tesla’s computer a better view of your face so it can better tell when you’re paying attention to the road, or watching movies on that big-a** screen.

Tesla Model X interior too minimal?

We really don’t see many drink holders or places to store things. We know the idea is minimal design and as little clutter as possible, but we all have phones, bags, drinks, and things that need places to live while we drive. And we’re just not seeing any cubbies or storage places here.

What do you think? Is the new Tesla Model X interior refreshing or confusing?
