2018 Jaguar E-Pace Recording-Breaking Barrel Roll

Share

There are many ways to get attention on a new vehicle like a press conference, online YouTube reveal or signing up some big name celebrity to talk about it. However, that isn’t quite enough for the Jaguar folks. Nah, they went big and set a Guinness World Record in their new 2018 Jaguar E-Pace. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

The Guinness World Record is officially for the longest barrel roll in a production vehicle. Jaguar set up the attempt on a track designed to do a 270-degree corkscrew-like barrel roll spanning 50 feet. The new E-Pace was driven by Terry Grant, a 21-record-holding stunt driver, who drove up a 525-foot run-up to achieve the right amount of speed. Grant felt the full force of 5.5g as he flipped the new SUV through the air. The video is incredible.

Jaguar is betting big on the new E-Pace to compete in what has become a hot market for all brands. It will do battle with BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi small crossovers as Jaguar hopes to build on the success of its F-Pace.

Mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, the E-Pace will return a 0-60 run in less than 6 seconds with a top speed of 152 MPH.

The transmission will also feature four overdrive gears to maximize fuel efficiency and an all-wheel-drive system featuring a torque-on-demand rear axle aiding in traction and handling as needed by diverting power to the left and right rear axles as needed.

The base E-Pace is also equipped with an AWD system although it isn’t quite as sophisticated as the R-Dynamic model.

Both AWD systems are biased 60/40 to the front wheels and Jaguar says 100 percent of the engine power can be shifted to either axle to improve traction in slick conditions and the freaking awesome factor when driving fast.

About the only real difference is the overall shape is slightly more angular than other Jaguar models which is likely a nod to the crossover’s targeted audience – younger and more technologically savvy drivers.

This model will also come with Jaguar’s fun new feature in the form of a waterproof Activity Key. Designed to let you play in the sun, sand or surf all day, the wristband Activity Key allows you to open the car by putting the band against a car door. It uses the keyless entry system to open the door for you. This is a particularly handy feature since keys are so easy to misplace.

Expect the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace to be on dealer lots later this year.
