Travel trailers under 5,000 pounds can open up more camping options without automatically putting a new truck on the shopping list. The important question is which weight you are looking at. A low advertised dry weight does not tell you what the trailer will weigh with water, propane and camping gear aboard.
These three trailers from the THOR Industries family have gross vehicle weight ratings below 5,000 pounds. That rating, usually shortened to GVWR, is the maximum permitted loaded weight, not a scale reading. This comparison uses published 2026 specifications from Venture RV, Jayco and KZ. It is a shopping guide, not a hands-on towing test or a guarantee that your truck or SUV can pull any of them.
1. Venture RV Sienna Lite SA130VRD: The smallest option

The 2026 Sienna Lite SA130VRD has a 3,500-pound GVWR, the lowest rating of this group. Venture lists an unloaded vehicle weight of 2,660 pounds, a 260-pound dry hitch weight and 840 pounds of cargo carrying capacity.
Its 16-foot, 9-inch overall length is also the shortest here. The floorplan provides a front bed and rear dinette, with a bathroom alongside the living area. For a couple or solo traveler who values a compact footprint, that makes it worth a closer look. Measure your storage space rather than assuming it will fit in the driveway.
The freshwater tank holds 20 gallons. Water and camping supplies use part of the trailer’s available cargo capacity, so the 840-pound figure should not be treated as room for gear after the tank is filled.
2. Jayco Jay Feather Air 16RB: More sleeping capacity

The 2026 Jay Feather Air 16RB comes closest to the cutoff with a 4,995-pound GVWR. Jayco lists 3,775 pounds unloaded, a 410-pound dry hitch weight and 1,220 pounds of cargo carrying capacity. Overall length is 20 feet, 2 inches.
Jayco says the 16RB sleeps up to four. Its floorplan combines a 60-by-80-inch front bed, a jackknife sofa and a rear bathroom. It also lists a 55-gallon freshwater capacity. That larger tank is useful to compare, but filling it consumes a substantial portion of the trailer’s carrying capacity.
Model year matters here. Jayco now identifies its 2026 models as dealer stock only. Check the label and specifications on the actual trailer, particularly if you are comparing a remaining 2026 unit with a newer model.
3. KZ Connect Mini CM181RB: A sofa slide and rear bath

The 2026 Connect Mini CM181RB pairs a 4,800-pound GVWR with a listed unloaded weight of 3,980 pounds. Its dry hitch weight is 560 pounds and listed cargo carrying capacity is 820 pounds. At 22 feet, 1 inch overall, it is the longest of these three trailers.
The floorplan includes a queen bed, a sofa slide-out and a rear bathroom. That gives shoppers a different space trade-off than the shorter Sienna Lite. KZ lists a 36-gallon freshwater tank.
Pay particular attention to the hitch figure. Even before loading, this model’s published dry hitch weight is higher than the other two. Loaded tongue weight must be measured and checked against the tow vehicle and hitch limits; the brochure number is only a starting point.
4. Travel trailers under 5,000 pounds still need towing math

Unloaded vehicle weight, GVWR and hitch weight answer different questions. Unloaded weight describes the trailer before your trip load. GVWR is its weight ceiling. Tongue weight is the load the trailer places on the hitch. Published dry hitch weight is not the same as loaded tongue weight.
Venture and KZ caution that listed weights are rolling averages and vary with equipment. Use the actual trailer’s labels and weigh the loaded combination. Keep the trailer within its GVWR and check the truck’s GVWR, axle ratings, gross combined weight rating and hitch limits, along with its configuration-specific tow rating.
Our guide to towing capacity and payload explains why the truck’s maximum tow rating is only part of the calculation. Manufacturer guidance, such as Ford’s towing resources, can help you locate the ratings for your exact vehicle.
5. The bottom line: Start with the truck you own

The Sienna Lite offers the lowest GVWR and shortest length. The Jay Feather Air adds sleeping capacity, while the Connect Mini offers a sofa slide and more overall length. Those differences are useful starting points for a dealership visit, not a ranking of towing performance.
Before choosing a floorplan, account for the people, cargo, hitch equipment and loaded trailer tongue weight your truck will carry. Follow the vehicle and trailer manufacturers’ requirements for brakes and hitch setup. A trailer can fall below the advertised tow rating and still leave too little payload for your family.
I would start with those limits, then compare the trailers that fit. A lighter camper may let you keep the vehicle you already own, but the labels and loaded weights need to support that decision.
