Engine damage and stalling (25V-767): Certain 2024 GX 550s are included in this engine recall. Machining debris left during manufacturing can damage crankshaft main bearings, leading to knocking, rough running, failure to start or stalling. The remedy uses inspection software to evaluate bearing condition, with engine replacement when the inspection cannot confirm the bearing will be free from abnormal wear related to the defect. Recall repairs are free.
Harsh downshifts: Lexus bulletin L-SB-0042-25 covers a harsh second-to-first downshift when slowing to a stop in certain 2024–2025 GX 550s. The procedure calls for an engine-control software update after confirming the condition. It does not call for replacing the control module.

Brake squeal: Lexus bulletin L-SB-0053-25 addresses front brake squeal on certain 2024–2026 GX 550s. Ask a dealer to confirm applicability and follow the current repair procedure rather than assuming every brake noise has the same cause.
Hood flutter: Bulletin L-SB-0013-25 addresses hood flutter on certain 2024 GX 550s at speeds above 25 mph. The repair uses specified foam and dampening material. Have a technician inspect visible hood movement; do not assume it is harmless without diagnosis.
GX Known Problems
Owner discussions also raise concerns about hood movement and fuel economy. These reports are useful questions to bring to a test drive or service visit, not a measure of failure rates.
