The 2027 Chevrolet Colorado changes include a revised TurboMax engine, three new exterior colors, upgraded connectivity and expanded availability for a popular convenience package.
Chevrolet has opened the order books for the 2027 Colorado, and while this isn’t a major redesign, the newly released order guide reveals several noteworthy updates according to GM-Trucks.com. The biggest question surrounds the truck’s standard 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which receives a new internal designation for 2027.
Here’s what Colorado buyers need to know.
2027 Chevy Colorado TurboMax engine gets new code
Every 2027 Chevrolet Colorado will continue to use the 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the engine’s Regular Production Option code changes from L3B to L4B.
That may sound like an insignificant change, but GM normally uses a new engine code when it makes a hardware, emissions or calibration revision. The order guide doesn’t explain what has changed inside the L4B engine, and Chevrolet hasn’t announced revised output figures.
The current TurboMax produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds when properly configured.
Could it be more horsepower or torque? How about gasoline particulate filters like the Ford EcoBoost engines have started using?
For owners, mechanics and aftermarket companies, the new code could become important. Parts catalogs, tuning products and service procedures are tied to specific RPO codes. Until Chevrolet releases more information, we don’t know whether the L4B is substantially different from the existing L3B or simply an updated version.

New colors, wheels and 5G connectivity
Chevrolet is replacing three Colorado exterior colors for 2027.
The outgoing colors are:
- Snowdrift Metallic
- Reef Blue Metallic
- Sunrise Orange
The new colors are:
- Serpent Metallic
- Storm Gray Metallic
- Nitron Blue
White Sands, Summit White, Black, Radiant Red Tintcoat and Sterling Gray Metallic remain available.
There are a few restrictions in the order guide. Storm Gray Metallic and Nitron Blue cannot be combined with the ZR2’s available Jet Black and Artemis interior. Serpent Metallic cannot be ordered with the Z71’s Adrenaline Red interior.
The 2027 Colorado also adds a new set of 17-inch wheels for the LT trim and available 18-inch Gloss Black machined-face wheels. Chevrolet is dropping the previous 17-inch Argent Metallic wheel option.
Another useful upgrade is a new 5G Wi-Fi hotspot that replaces the previous 4G LTE system.
Convenience Package III expands to off-road trims
Chevrolet is expanding the availability of Convenience Package III for 2027. According to the order guide, the package will be optional on the Colorado Z71 and available on the ZR2.
Depending on the configuration, Convenience Package III includes features such as ventilated front seats, driver’s seat memory, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and additional interior storage features.
The 2027 Colorado also adds an available Universal Home Remote, something that has been strangely absent from several configurations. This allows owners to operate compatible garage doors and security gates from the truck.
A new Jet Black interior with Artemis Cloth and Evotex upholstery will also be offered on the ZR2.
The basic lineup remains unchanged. Chevrolet will continue to offer the Colorado in WT, LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trims. Every truck is still a crew cab with the short bed. Rear-wheel drive remains available on the WT and LT, while Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2 models come with four-wheel drive.
Should you wait for the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado?
The 2027 Chevrolet Colorado is largely a carryover truck, but the engine-code change makes it more interesting than the typical collection of new colors and wheel options.
Published payload, weight and dimensional specifications remain unchanged. A properly configured four-wheel-drive Colorado can still carry up to approximately 1,700 pounds, and the truck retains its 21.4-gallon fuel tank. The ZR2 continues to provide 10.7 inches of ground clearance.
Buyers who want Snowdrift Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic or Sunrise Orange will need to find a 2026 model. The transition to the 2027 model year could also create opportunities to negotiate on remaining 2026 inventory.
Those interested in the new colors, faster onboard Wi-Fi or expanded convenience features may prefer to order a 2027. The unanswered question is what Chevrolet changed when it renamed the TurboMax engine from L3B to L4B.
The order guide confirms something changed. Now we need Chevrolet to explain exactly what it was.
