Chrysler announced a long-term partnership with the Autism Society of America at the New York International Auto Show. The goal: to support travelers with autism.
One of the immediate benefits of the partnership is the new Calm Cabin Package available on the Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid. Designed the make those with autism feel calm, safe and comfortable, the package includes a seatback organizer with adjustable straps, a rechargeable cordless Bluetooth meditative light-and-sound therapy machine, a comforting seatbelt sleeve, soft-touch pillow and weighted sensory blanket.
This package will be available in the early spring through Chrysler’s online retail store.
This announcement coincides with Autism Acceptance Month as well as the Autism Society’s fifth annual Celebrate Differences campaign.
In the long-term, the partnership will work to make travel more comfortable through thoughtful design, support accommodations, educational resources and local community engagement.
According to the CDC, 1 in 36 children receive an autism diagnosis, and there are 5.8 million autistic adults in the U.S. So, this partnership seeks to make road trips less stressful and scary.
Thus, Chrysler will be working with the Autism Society to identify additional areas where the brand can support and affect meaningful change in the autism community, including dealership-network staff training designed to familiarize employees with the unique needs of individuals and families in the autism community.
For those with autism, a simple trip to school or to run errands can be fraught with overstimulation. So, kudos to Chrysler, which makes one of the premiere minivans, for stepping up to the plate and partnering with the Autism Society to try to make this experience a little less challenging. We’re looking forward to seeing what comes next from this partnership.
