For the 2022 model year, Ram is updating several features on its Heavy Duty truck line, which includes the 2500, 3500 and Power Wagon. And, it’s worth noting, some of the 2022 Ram Heavy Dutys equipped with a Cummins 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine are facing a voluntary recall over a potential fire hazard.
The powertrains and engine options remain the same from the 2021 model year. Beyond that, the Ram HD trucks see updates to the infotainment system, towing, trailering and a new special edition.
Let’s look at what’s new on the 2022 Ram Heavy Duty trucks.
Stellantis has had one of the best infotainment systems around for a while, and now the fifth iteration of its UConnect system arrives to the Heavy Duty lineup.
UConnect 5 is standard on Ram 2500 and 3500 Big Horn models and above, and it features Wi-Fi connectivity and tow-specific navigation along with a slew of its subscription in-vehicle services. A 12-inch touchscreen is standard for all trucks.
When I saw a new special edition, I thought maybe my prediction of a special Yellowstone Trim would come true. But it hasn’t. Yet. However, there is a new Silver Edition that features chrome tow hooks, belt molding, door handle inserts, mirrors, a unique grille and black interior accents. Single rear-wheel models include chrome wheel-to-wheel side steps and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. Dual rear-wheel models include chrome cab-length steps and 17-inch polished aluminum wheels.
Big Horn/Lone Star Silver Edition is available in Crew and Mega Cab configurations.
How could anyone forget about this awesome truck? The Power Wagon sees a lot of updates for the 2022 model year, including a black grille mesh with a Gunmetal R-A-M grille badge and premium headlamps with Gloss Black surrounds.
Mechanically, the Power Wagon sees receives an electronic transfer case on Level 2 and is standard on Level 3 equipment packages. Inside, Bristol leather bucket seats are embossed with the Power Wagon logo.

The 2022 Ram 3500 offers maximum towing capacity of 37,090 while the Ram 2500 has up to 20,000 pounds of towing. Maximum payload for the Ram is 7,680 pounds.
These are the work trucks. The trucks used to move equipment, to move big time recreational vehicles and generally to live hard and play hard. So, it’s great for Stellantis to update these trucks and keep them current and modern.
The UConnect system is outstanding and is major selling point, having all that intuitive technology at your fingertips. And even if you don’t need them, having the trailering and tow assist features are nice.
