2021 Ford F-150 Powerboost

Gotcha day for the 2021 Ford F-150 Powerboost. This is a picture of Tim’s truck, taken on the day he picked it up at the dealership in Michigan. (Photo by Tim Esterdahl)

During the past couple of months, Tim has been chronicling his purchase and experience with his 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost, aka hybrid. When he finally found one, he hopped on YouTube to explain his reason for wanting this truck, the features he was looking for, how he found one and his plan for bringing it home.

Why buy the hybrid?

First of all, it’s good for business. Buying a truck before the end of the year meant Tim could write off the purchase on his 2020 taxes. Since he plans to drive this truck for a year while testing it and making videos to share with his viewers, he can legitimately call this a business expense.

Tim specifically chose the F-150 hybrid because it is the newest half-ton pickup truck on the market. It also has the newest powertrain — the hybrid. This means he’ll be able to produce a lot of content and answer a lot of questions for potential buyers.

Tim plans to keep this truck for a year, chronicling the various ways he and his family use it — including pulling a camper for some away time with the wife and kids. After the year is up he will likely resell it and start again with another new pickup truck.

The trickiness of a year-end deadline

This truck is brand new, and thanks to COVID, the production has been a little slow. So in order to make sure Tim’s new truck was in his driveway before December 31, he needed a little help from Ford. Between them, they were able locate three unsold 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost trucks to choose from.

The caveat: The trucks were all in Michigan or Kentucky. (ICYMI: Tim lives in Nebraska.)

Once Tim picked the one he wanted, he was put in touch with the Michigan dealer. The sales person even picked him up from the airport and took him to the dealership where he could finalize the purchase before driving it home.

Let’s take a look Tim’s F-150 hybrid

The base price for the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost XLT was $43,805. With an upgraded appearance package and some other extras, the MSRP came to $61,485. Tim was able to utilize Ford employee pricing, which saved him some money, and he also decided to use Ford Credit for financing.

Now, watch the video below where Tim goes over the features that got him excited about buying this truck, and tell us in the comments what you’d most like to learn about the F-150 hybrid. Who knows? Maybe Tim will answer your question in an upcoming video!
