The 2017 Lexus LX 570 is a large, powerful SUV without a doubt. It uses the same 5.7L V8 engine found in a variety of Toyota and Lexus products like the Toyota Tundra and Land Cruiser.

Also, it comes standard with a slew of off-road features like full-time 4WD, Crawl Control, Adaptive Variable Suspension adding up to 3 inches of ride height, Multi-Terrain Select, Variable Gear-Ratio Steering to dramatically improve the front-wheel steering angle response at low speeds while adding high-speed responsiveness and control at highway speeds.

Finally, it is one of the few large SUVs to have a lockable center differential.

2017 Lexus LX 570 - 5 Things You Need to KnowOnly 8 Options and 1 Package

2017 Lexus LX 570 - 5 Things You Need to Know2017 Lexus LX 570 vs. Toyota Land Cruiser

One of the big “ah-ha” moments we had driving around in the 2017 Lexus LX 570 was how similar it is to the Toyota Land Cruiser. In fact, this isn’t just a feeling – it is identical to the Land Cruiser in nearly every way except for a few small details. These small details matter.

For example, with all the off-road capability knobs and buttons, the center stack and seem pretty confusing and crowded. The 2017 Lexus LX 570 offers a much cleaner and polished center stack and cup holder area over the 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser. While this may seem like a small item, it is an important one especially over the course of ownership!

Also, the Lexus LX 570 is simply more luxurious than the Land Cruiser. From the outside to in, the LX is filled with more luxury materials and definitely has a different vibe to it.

The price difference is about $10k depending on Lexus LX 570 options. While that seems like a lot of money, getting the luxury touches and the Lexus dealership experience is well worth it.

2017 Lexus LX 570 - 5 Things You Need to KnowBehind the Wheel

Driving around the 2017 Lexus LX 570 is pretty much as one would imagine. It is a large SUV and while the driving dynamics are certainly improved over full-size SUVs from a decade ago, you still must match your driving style to the size of the vehicle.

The driver’s seat gives a commanding view of the surrounding area and stomping on the gas brings an immediate smile to your face as the beast lurks forward. It isn’t slow per se, but it does take a while to get moving over smaller vehicles. However, that doesn’t really matter when you have such a commanding vehicle.

You likely won’t smash the gas all too often unless you like stopping at the gas station. The 2017 Lexus LX 570 is rated at just 13/18/15 city/highway/combined MPG.

2017 Lexus LX 570 - 5 Things You Need to KnowPeculiar Cargo Room

Lastly, this is a global vehicle sold in many markets. Those markets have different demands for cargo room and three-row seating. Here in the U.S., the folded rear seats create an interesting quandary over how to fit larger sports equipment like golf clubs or camping gear like tents.

The folded seats are really a throw back to the heritage of this vehicle, more specifically the Land Cruiser with its facing seating positions, as well as a by product of the off-road gear found in the vehicle. You simply can’t have the many off-road features the LX 570 offers and have seats that say fold underneath the floor or are otherwise stored. It is a pro/con situation on the vehicle.

2017 Lexus LX 570 - 5 Things You Need to KnowIn the end, it is hard to not love the 2017 Lexus LX 570. Its large size, comfortable ride, luxury touches and off-road capability make it a site favorite. While we would like to see a better rear cargo seating solution and better fuel economy, we will take those cons to get all the benefits of the SUV.
