GM is giving heavy-duty truck buyers an early look at its next diesel engine. The automaker released a Mongoose teaser video for the new 8.3-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 headed to the refreshed 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD.
The name sets up a predator-versus-prey theme. In its announcement, GM takes a swipe at a cross-town rival’s diesel engine and its “scorpion” nickname, positioning the Mongoose as the challenger.

For now, this is a teaser rather than a full specifications announcement. GM’s release identifies the engine’s displacement and the two trucks that will use it, but does not provide horsepower, torque or towing figures.
Chevrolet and GMC say more information is coming soon. Until then, the video offers the first official tease of the new Duramax and the heavy-duty truck rivalry GM wants it to take on.
