A recall of 223,472 Ford F-150 vehicles for fuel tanks that may leak or detach.
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2027 F-150 vehicles. The fuel tank may be improperly secured and leak fuel, or detach from the vehicle while driving.
Affected VINs should be searchable now at the NHTSA website.

Descriptive Information
Ford’s team reviewed plant records to determine the population of affected parts. Affected vehicles are equipped with front fuel tank straps that may have been improperly assembled from January 4, 2023, through August 27, 2026, when camera systems to verify proper fuel tank strap assembly were not in continuous use at F-150 vehicle assembly plants. Vehicles from this production period that are either unsold or have less than 3 months in service as of August 27, 2026, are included in the recall population. This population is based on Ford’s understanding of the issue and observed occurrences in the field, which indicate the condition will manifest very early in the vehicle’s lifetime.
These vehicles are not produced in VIN order. Information as to the applicability of this action to specific vehicles can best be obtained by either calling Ford’s toll-free line (1-866-436-7332) or by contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealer who can obtain specific information regarding the vehicles from the Ford On-line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database.
Description of defect or noncompliance:
Fuel tanks may become unsecured from the vehicle and detach while driving.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
An improperly secured fuel tank may cause fuel leaks, which could increase the risk of fire or engine stall from fuel loss. A detached fuel tank also creates a road hazard to other vehicles.
Description of the cause:
In some instances, front fuel tank strap T-slots were not properly inserted into the vehicle’s frame rail at the time of vehicle assembly.
Identification of any warning that can occur:
None.
Chronology
On July 23, 2026, an issue pertaining to potentially unsecure fuel tanks was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group for review.
From July 2026 to August 2026, CCRG reviewed global warranty data for unsecured fuel tanks and worked to understand potential for improper assembly of fuel tank straps. This review identified a number of unsecured fuel tanks affecting F-150 vehicles built during periods when the vision systems that confirm proper assembly were not in continuous usage.
As of August 27, 2026, Ford is aware of 16 warranty claims globally related to this condition received between June 25, 2018 and August 5, 2026.
On September 1, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
Remedy
Description of Remedy
Remedy Type: Inspect, Replace
Description of remedy program:
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their fuel tank straps inspected and replaced if necessary. There will be no charge for this service.
How remedy component differs from recalled component:
Remedy fuel tank straps are the same as the recalled component, but will be properly secured to the frame rail.
Description of recall schedule:
Notification to dealers is expected to occur on September 14, 2026. Mailing of remedy owner notification letters is expected to begin September 21, 2026 and is expected to be completed by September 28, 2026. The date VINs are planned to be searchable is September 14, 2026.
