The 2027 GMC Sierra EV changes the plug, adds camera features and makes a useful convenience feature standard across the lineup. GMC’s official order guide lists a native NACS charging inlet in place of the previous CCS1 port, along with a surround-view recording function and standard power-folding mirrors.
The buying decision still goes well beyond choosing Elevation, AT4 or Denali. Battery selection changes power, charging capability and towing ratings, and the largest battery does not deliver the highest listed trailer rating.
NACS charging arrives, but adapters still matter
The 2027 order guide confirms the inlet change. That gives the truck the NACS connector used by compatible Tesla Superchargers, rather than requiring a CCS-to-NACS adapter at those locations. Drivers still need to check station compatibility and access.
GMC also lists adapters for CCS1 fast chargers and J1772 Level 2 equipment. A new plug does not make every existing charging station adapter-free. The mechanical table lists peak DC charging capability of 220 kW for Standard Range, 300 kW for Extended Range and 350 kW for Max Range. Those are upper limits, not rates maintained through an entire charging session.
Dual motors return with configuration-specific power
Every listed configuration uses one front and one rear electric motor for four-wheel drive. Standard Range Elevation is listed at 605 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque. Extended Range versions range from 625 to 645 horsepower, depending on trim. At the top, Max Range AT4 is listed at 750 horsepower, while Max Range Denali reaches 760 horsepower; both carry 775 pound-feet ratings.
The mechanical guide lists Max Power Mode on the Extended Range and Max Range configurations. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from our own test of a 2027 truck. The reviewed tables do not establish final 2027 EPA driving-range ratings or retail pricing.
More camera features and standard folding mirrors
GMC says Surround Vision now includes a recording function. An interior camera and Denali Dark Package also appear among the new items, though buyers should check the equipment list for their particular trim and package. Neither should be assumed standard merely because it appears on the changes list.
Heated, power-adjustable and power-folding outside mirrors become standard across the lineup, including driver-side auto-dimming and memory. New paint choices include Deep Void Matte, Azurite Blue Metallic, Dark Ridge Metallic and Marine Teal. Availability and option prices still need to be checked on the specific truck.
Size and towing: the biggest battery is not the strongest tow choice
The crew-cab Sierra EV seats five and measures about 233.4 inches long on a 146-inch wheelbase. The bed floor is approximately 70.6 inches long, and the front trunk provides 11 cubic feet of storage, according to the dimensions and specifications tables.
The guide lists maximum towing of 8,500 pounds for Standard Range Elevation and 12,500 pounds for Extended Range Elevation. Extended Range AT4 is listed at 12,300 pounds. Extended Range Denali can reach 12,500 pounds with the specified K28 equipment and coil suspension, while Max Range AT4 and Denali are listed at 10,200 pounds.
That makes configuration shopping worthwhile: selecting Max Range does not also select maximum towing. Check the individual truck’s trailering label and payload allowance for the trailer, passengers and cargo you actually plan to carry. GMC notes that equipment availability can change during the model year.
