Jeep is recalling 97,349 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs because their roof rack crossbars may detach, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2025 Jeep Wagoneer, 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, 2023-2025 Jeep Wagoneer L, and 2023-2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L vehicles. The pivot bolts for the roof rack crossbars may not have been tightened properly, allowing them to detach.
Owners can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA recall lookup to see whether their SUV is affected.

Descriptive Information
Some 2022-2026 Model Year Jeep Grand Wagoneer, 2023-2026 Model Year Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, 2022-2025 Model Year Jeep Wagoneer, and 2023-2025 Model Year Jeep Wagoneer L vehicles may have been equipped with roof crossbars with insufficiently torqued pivot bolts.
The suspect population began on February 24, 2021, when the first 2022 Model Year vehicle with suspect roof crossbars was produced, and ended on October 30, 2025, when vehicles were no longer equipped with suspect roof crossbars. The suspect population was determined using supplier and vehicle production records.
Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built after the suspect period or were not equipped with roof crossbars.
Description of defect or noncompliance:
A crossbar with insufficient torque on the pivot bolt may detach from the vehicle.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
Crossbars which detach from a vehicle may create a road hazard to operators and occupants of other vehicles, and can cause such vehicles to crash without prior warning.

Customers may hear a rattling noise, notice that the crossbar is missing a bolt or came apart at the pivot joint.
Chronology
On June 25, 2026, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation into some 2022-2026 Model Year Jeep Grand Wagoneer, 2023-2026 Model Year Grand Wagoneer L, 2022-2025 Model Year Wagoneer and 2023-2025 Model Year Wagoneer L vehicles that may have been equipped with a roof crossbar that can detach from the vehicle and create a road hazard.
From June 25, 2026, through August 19, 2026, FCA US TSRC met with FCA US Engineering and Manufacturing to review vehicle production records and design changes to the roof crossbar to understand potential root cause, customer consequence and vehicle scope.
As of August 31, 2026, FCA US is aware of no customer assistance records or field reports and 15 warranty claims potentially relating to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from May 3, 2023, to May 29, 2026.
As of August 31, 2026, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
On September 03, 2026, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain vehicles.

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to repair the pivot joints on the roof crossbars.
How remedy component differs from recalled component:
Remedy pivot bolts are a different design.
Description of recall schedule:
Dealer notification was scheduled for September 17, 2026. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed October 8, 2026. A second notice will follow when the remedy is available. Dealers will replace the roof rack pivot bolts free of charge. Owners can contact FCA US at 1-800-853-1403 and ask about recall 81D.
