Madrid is getting a Formula 1 weekend with no previous race-day habits, favourite grandstands or historical lap records to copy. Madring will host its first Spanish Grand Prix on September 11-13, giving spectators the chance to discover a circuit at the same time as the teams.
Choosing Your Ticket
The first decision is how much of that discovery you want to see. For anyone choosing between a single day and the whole event, the current Madrid F1 tickets page lists Friday, Saturday, Sunday, two-day and three-day passes for the inaugural weekend. That makes it possible to match the ticket to the part of Formula 1 you actually want to watch.
Friday shows drivers learning the track and testing setup choices. Saturday adds qualifying pressure, while Sunday brings the start, strategy and full race. A three-day visit makes particular sense at a new venue because the circuit will evolve as rubber builds up and teams understand its limits.
What Makes Madring Different?
Madring is a 5.47 km, 22-corner semi-urban circuit built around IFEMA Madrid and Valdebebas. It mixes public-road sections with purpose-built track, so it sits somewhere between a traditional permanent circuit and a compact street race.
The main straight is 589 metres long, with cars expected to exceed 320 km/h before braking hard for Turn 1. Another signature is La Monumental, a long banked corner designed to carry high speed through a section with elevation change.
Reuters reported in June that preparations were continuing ahead of the September race, while organisers remained confident that the venue would be ready. Madrid-born Carlos Sainz had already spoken positively about the project in 2025, saying the circuit had the potential to become one of the best in the world.
Where to Sit
Seat choice at Madring is really a choice about what kind of Formula 1 moment you want to see. A heavy braking zone gives more wheel-to-wheel tension, while a faster section shows the speed and direction changes that television tends to flatten. For a first visit, these viewing priorities are useful:
- Turn 1 for the opening-lap rush, late braking and possible overtaking after the main straight.
- La Monumental for sustained speed, banking and a clear sense of how the car moves through a long corner.
- Start and finish areas for the grid, pit activity, race start and chequered flag.
- Technical sequences for watching drivers balance entry speed and positioning for the next corner.
There is no established “classic Madring view” yet because the first Formula 1 race has not happened. Spectators in September will be the first crowd to decide which corners become the circuit’s signature places.
Getting to the Circuit
Location may become one of Madrid’s strongest practical advantages. Metro Line 8 stops at Feria de Madrid beside IFEMA and connects with Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, while Valdebebas provides another access point on the wider rail network.
That changes race-day planning. Visitors can stay in Madrid and use public transport for the final journey instead of organising the weekend around a long road transfer. It is still sensible to check the entrance shown on the ticket, because approaching the wrong side of a 5.47 km venue can add a substantial walk.
What to Watch Before Sunday
Qualifying deserves time in the plan because Madring has no archive of Formula 1 reference laps. Every sector time will help establish what “fast” looks like here, and small mistakes will reveal which corners are harder than the map suggests.
Friday practice could be equally revealing. Drivers will be collecting braking references, testing kerbs and learning how the urban and permanent sections connect, so the changes between early practice and qualifying may be easier to spot than at a familiar circuit.
