This week, I followed up on a viewer question about the GM retrofit process. The viewer question has to do with his 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 diesel, which is missing several features.Â

Good morning,
I follow your YouTube and understand you have contacts in the GM realm. I wanted to inquire if there has been any update as to the heated/ventilated seats, steering wheel, and parking sensors retrofit. I purchased a 2022 Sierra 1500 AT4 3.0l and was sold the vehicle on the premise that all missing items would be retrofitted at a later date. GM Authority states retro fits are occurring starting in Aug of 2022 for heated and ventilated seats. I consulted both my dealer and GM about this and they pointed the finger at the other stating they have to wait for dealer to contact GM or GM to contact the dealer. The process seems rather confusing not only for the customer but the dealers and staff of GM. If you know someone that could possibly provide further guidance or to ask the question with one of your contacts it would be greatly appreciated.

GM retrofit plan detailed
I reached out to Patrick Sullivan, the GMC Sierra Senior Manager for Product and Brand Communications, and got this response:
For retrofits, customers will receive a communication directly from GM once their VIN is eligible. This comes in the form of a letter mailed to their latest address and provides instructions on how to schedule an appointment with their local dealer to have the retrofit performed.Â
Timing for each retrofit varies depending on a number of factors and (as alluded to above) is based on VIN. GM is in frequent contact with dealers to let them know the status of each retrofit.Â
So while I don’t have specifics on the timing of the retrofits for the customer who emailed you, I hope this helps shed some light on the overall process.
The bottom line
It is simply a waiting game, unfortunately, for consumers, and until the supply chain starts to get moving again (we’re looking at you, semiconductor chips), there really isn’t much to be done.Â

Why, you ask. Do they make new vehicles with the part you need? Because, they now know , nobody is going to buy a new vehicle knowing that may never get what they paid for. You have paid for yours and they don’t give a shit…

Is GM building new vehicles complete using the current supply of chips and letting current owners wait?
Should I not have some priority since I paid for Park Assist Almost a year ago in APRIL OF 2022???

I was told by my dealer that the heated steering wheel chip for my 2023 trailblazer is VIN specific. Guess that was not the truth.

Spoke to a different dealer today. No, the retrofit for my 2023 trailblazer is not Vin specific. He said it’s considered a GM recall and the part was released 3-22-2023. Just need to call the dealer to get it ordered 9 takes a few days to get it in 0 and then schedule appointment to have it installed. The 1st dealer I spoke with said it would cost ME $137.00 for the part plus installation. The dealer I spoke with today said it’s GM recall so it’s considered warranty and no charge.

Sounds like you found a dealer who knew what they were talking about. Good to hear you are going to get it taken care of without putting any money out for the fix.

I am still waiting for the retrofit for my 2023 Buick Envision. I was skeptical at the time of purchase that the retrofits would not happen. After hearing the length of time others have bee waiting, I may get rid of this vehicle for something other than a GM/Buick. My neighbors just bought a Hundai. I may look at trading for one. But who will want a vehicle like mine without all it claims to be.

I am in the same situation as most. I have a 2022 GMC Sierra. Just received a recall notice for the ventilation but no word on the other retrofits.
This is my first GMC product and will be my last.

We have. 2022 Silverado that shipped without the heated seats, heated steering wheel and front and back park assist. A couple weeks ago the heated seat module finally came in and they installed it no problem. I took it today at 7:30 am so they could install the front and back park assist and after 4 hours sitting there they said they were having problems. I called someone for a ride home. They called 15 min before closing and said that they “fried the cluster” and it would be a couple days to get a new one. We had our first camping trip of the year scheduled and now we will lose that deposit. Not a happy camper.

New traverse premier in July 2022 told “3rd or 4th quarter”to get seats and parking assit. Parking assit retrofitted earlier this year. Called gm customer no service and was told 1st quarter of this year (2023). No contact so reached out to them again and was told should be coming up as it is vin specific in March. Now june and called again and was told they now gave no eta. And no one knows. No explanation as to how new vehicles were shipped with items my car is missing. I have a tahoe, 2 equinoxes a Sierra and now a traverse. The traverse has had multiple warranty issues and has been in shop 20 days. It will be hard to buy a gm again the way they have handled warranty and recall items. I guess I have just been lucky to this point. I am in for class action suit. A one year wait with no eta has put me over the edge.

I’m in the same situation as most of you all. I bought a Chevrolet Blazer in Feb 2022, and was promised that the Heated Ventilated seats and Park assist will be retrofit installed by Summer 2022. I got the heated ventilated seats installed in November, but still waiting for Park assist. I got a letter from Chevrolet that the part is available in June but the when my dealership ordered for the parts they are saying it’s running back ordered. It’s been more than a month and still did not receive the parts. I wonder how the new Chevy cars are released with all features installed when the previous owners who should be the one getting this features in priority. We were the ones still driving an incomplete vehicle even after purchasing it on the elevated prices. Really disappointed with Chevrolet/GMC.
