This week, I followed up on a viewer question about the GM retrofit process. The viewer question has to do with his 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 diesel, which is missing several features.
Here is the email:
Good morning,
I follow your YouTube and understand you have contacts in the GM realm. I wanted to inquire if there has been any update as to the heated/ventilated seats, steering wheel, and parking sensors retrofit. I purchased a 2022 Sierra 1500 AT4 3.0l and was sold the vehicle on the premise that all missing items would be retrofitted at a later date. GM Authority states retro fits are occurring starting in Aug of 2022 for heated and ventilated seats. I consulted both my dealer and GM about this and they pointed the finger at the other stating they have to wait for dealer to contact GM or GM to contact the dealer. The process seems rather confusing not only for the customer but the dealers and staff of GM. If you know someone that could possibly provide further guidance or to ask the question with one of your contacts it would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Mike
GM retrofit plan detailed
I reached out to Patrick Sullivan, the GMC Sierra Senior Manager for Product and Brand Communications, and got this response:
For retrofits, customers will receive a communication directly from GM once their VIN is eligible. This comes in the form of a letter mailed to their latest address and provides instructions on how to schedule an appointment with their local dealer to have the retrofit performed.
Timing for each retrofit varies depending on a number of factors and (as alluded to above) is based on VIN. GM is in frequent contact with dealers to let them know the status of each retrofit.
So while I don’t have specifics on the timing of the retrofits for the customer who emailed you, I hope this helps shed some light on the overall process.
The bottom line
It is simply a waiting game, unfortunately, for consumers, and until the supply chain starts to get moving again (we’re looking at you, semiconductor chips), there really isn’t much to be done.

Nice reporting but you failed to include the fact that GM is using chips that belong to previously sold customers in new unsold production. I gave up on GM after waiting eleven months for them to provide the five missing features ( of eleven buttons on that part of the dash seven do not work) and traded a relatively new truck on one that was produced with all it’s parts, taking a substantial loss. Communications to GM about collecting for parts they failed to deliver constitutes theft but all I have received to date is “ I’m sorry” . I am now after fifty years a “former GM customer”.

I feel the same way , If GM owes me a chip for a truck i already own how can the put them in new truck that are not sold. This is my first gm and With they are handling this maybe my last
Jeff
GM continues to produce trucks with the chips that are needed to fix the trucks that were sold incomplete. The chips are available but GM instead chooses to make more trucks without fixing those they already sold. I have been a GMC owner for over 30 years numerous cars and trucks. I have been waiting since January 2022 this will be my last truck/car I am spreading the negative word as much as I can

I too am in the same position with my 2022 Sierra. How is this legal? Has there been any talk of a class action lawsuit?

I’am furious that I spent $70,000 on a truck and promised heated seats and after waiting since January 2022 I’m done waiting ..this is My first brand new truck and will be my last I’m tired of the big 3 just doing whatever and whenever they want..lost a customer for good

Same here. I bought a 22 Denali with promised chips, and they keep saying “not yet”. First and last GMC for me. This is like signing up for a new phone with you cell carrier that you pay for, and they advertise free phones to new subscribers.

Call your dealerships parts manager ask him/her to put in for your recall letter he will need your Vin number I did that two weeks ago he sent in a request to GM about a week later I got a Recall notice in the mail then I called parts manager he set up an appointment and I get my chip installed on Monday
John Duffy
What exactly drove you to call a parts manager and make this request? I’m asking because I want to make sure I have the same background information as you before I reach out to the parts department at my local dealership. I purchased a 2500 HD Denali pick-up in Feb 2022 and it does not have front parking sensors. They told me at the time he chips would be available in Aug 2022. Its now April 2023.

How do they work

I am in the same boat with a new GMC HD from January 2022. I have started to shop some New Fords and have been told by several salesman that Ford sells only product that has been completed. All inventory that was not a right fit for me was complete.

I bought a 2022 Blazer in Feb and was told the park assist and heated seats would be retrofitted at a later date. The heated seats have been done. Still waiting on the park assist. Confused as some are saying to contact the dealer and others say to wait for a letter from Chevrolet. Totally ridiculous to have to wait over a year with no advice from manufacturer or dealer. Doesn’t inspire confidence to the buyer.

I definitely have interest in class action litigation any more info would be appreciated
Kevin
I’m in as well. Hope we see a law firm step-up on this.

This is flat ridiculous! 2012 Silverado has been in Chey service Center since early October 2022!
Supposedly needing a Transmission Control Module. Waited, waited, waited! I understand a “new” part number has been created, this helps me how? No, ETA yet on when module will be made or sent! Outrageous! Truck sitting with 90,000 miles! Anyone with information please make a comment!
Tim
There needs to be a class action suit against them. This is so unfair. I’ve been a life long GM owner and couldn’t be more upset. I paid for the upgrades already and they’re putting them in 23’s. Bullshit!!

I am in the fact that they are using the chips we have paid for in new vehicles without any regard towards gmc owners who they have turned their back on !

I purchased a 2022 Buick Enclave in late July of 2022, with two retrofits ,,,,,heated steering wheel and rear crossover notification promised.
We have been GM customers for more than 60 years and are still waiting for some authorities to notify us of the process. So at LEAST we know the retrofit WILL happen.
IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

After waiting since March I am finally getting my heated and ventilated seats done. I have NOT received any word from GM, however I checked the recall listing for my truck and found the heated seats as a recall order. It showed status “incomplete” I then read it advised to contact a GM dealer and have them oversee the parts. I contacted the dealership went through the run around and advised them what it said. They checked and told me I was right ( this was surprising, as mentioned above I thought the dealerships were being well informed). I scheduled with my dealer and they’re set to install the part (which they have in stock, I find this infuriating as well) next week. This is a joke GM, take care of the customers that have given you money. This is my first GM product and will be my last!!!
Mike
I bought mine Silverado Ltz in Jan 2022 I just called dealer on 12/27and ordered chip for heated seats only still need heated steering wheel and backup sensor

I’m in the same situation. I purchased a 2022 gmc 2500 duramax in may of this year. The truck was actually produced like in January of 2022. Still have not received chips for heated seats ,steering wheel, and rear crossover. Have visited with dealer several times. Same run around ,dealer says gmc will contact me, when I call customer service with gmc they say contact dealer. Now I guess it will be piece milled at best only receiving chips for one missing option at a time. Couldn’t help but notice a full lot of new gmc trucks at the dealership fully equipped. I was previously driving a dodge Cummins. The sad thing is I could have bought a new dodge truck fully equipped with all features at the time.

It’s upsetting! I bought a 22 escalade back in Feb 2022 and it came with all the missing options my AT4 is supposed to be retrofitted for. I bought my AT4 in Sept 2022 with the promise all retrofits would be completed by years end!

I purchased my pickup in February of 2022. At that time I was told I would receive chips at the end of July. These chips were for heated seats, heated steering wheel and a few other things. And still haven’t received anything as of December 31st 2022.
Felix Vidales
I stopped by my GM dealer today; they supposedly ordered the chip for the front and rear heated/ventilated seats for my 22’ AT4 1500. I asked about the Front and Rear park asst and when that would be retrofitted and they said GM has not sent out any TBs on that issue.
Arlene
I also would be interested in a class action lawsuit. All the 2023’s and some 2022’s have all the chips we are waiting for.
Bill
Bought my Silverado in March 2022 with the understanding that heated seats and steering wheel would be retrofitted by the end of August 2022. My ass keeps getting cold in January 2023. Such great customer service by GM. Ridiculous !

purchased silverado RST in May, 2022. missing heated seats, steering wheel. I gave GM an ear full about a month ago.Got busy with holidays and vacation. I checked with dealer about a week ago and was told yep, we have the recall for the heated seats. it was issued on 12/15/22 specific to my vin. Never got an alert from GM via mail, email, or thru the app. parts ordered about a week ago, took it in today. took 45 minutes in and out. No word on steering wheel. But yes, as most have said, this all BS the way GM has handled this. i would advise to keep checking with dealer. I never got an alert and sounds like I could have gotten the seats done a month ago based on recall date.
Jason
I ordered my 2022 high country silverado HD 3500 December 2021with all options, $84k, told by dealer i would get all those options. Truck was built March 30th and told by dealer it was “in transit” May 13th so i started financing end of May. I Didn’t get the truck until November of 22………..truck was missing rear liners, trailer tire pressure monitors and front rear park assist……..being i was paying for it already I received NO money back NOR any date on when I get what’s missing. What gets me the most is new trucks have all options. This whole purchase was BRUTAL, never again!!!!
Robert. Nault
I also brought a Silverado in Jan 22 took possession of the truck in July 22 short chips same as everyone else was told gm will send out a card in the mail to me and then the dealer will order the parts but not until I receive the card so yes I’m ready to join lawsuit
Jason
To add to my post above……..read below from GM when I reached out to see if I was eligible for my retrofit
“I certainly understand how you feel with what appears to be the slow pace of availability of the chips. It is also true that GM started building and selling vehicles with the feature that your vehicle is still missing and that’s because we are focused on a two-tier strategy that includes retrofitting customer vehicles and building vehicles with the impacted feature. We feel that this is the best strategy for all customers.”
That is BS……….I was never told this when I purchased my truck NOR did I receive any credits……..I will be seeking legal advice

I bought my GMC sierra 1500 in May of 2022. My truck is missing front/rear sensors, active cruise avoidance and heated/vented seats. I was told they would start retrofitting the trucks in August of 23. 9 months later and not a word from GM on this. I looked at a new truck today that just arrived on the lot today. I asked if it has the heated/vented seats and it does not have the chip, however the dealer ordered the part and will be in next week. If i buy it, i can leave it there and they will install the new chip next week and i can take delivery of it then. How is this legal and ethical?? im ready for a class action lawsuit to begin. 70+k for a truck and not a word from them.

Just bought a 23 trail boos. 120v not working and no wirless charging. Chevy is shipping new ones with both! HELP!
Tim Esterdahl
We just bought a 2023 Silverado 1500 and didn’t have wireless charging neither. Not sure about 120V plug.

I got mine last April and was told they were planning on a 3rd quarter release. That was almost a year ago! I was at the dealership this morning finally scheduling for heated seats (which are pointless in the desert southwest), and complained that the proximity sensors were really what I needed. Then same day I backing into a pole that was in the mirror and backup camera blind spot. I dented the bumper a bit between two of the sensors that don’t work and am out a lot of money to fix it. I reached out to GM a few minutes ago and they said they have no ETA on either my heated steering wheel or proximity sensors. Once fixed, I’m tempted to just trade for another brand that doesn’t do this type of business with their customers. It’s the first new truck I’ve ever had and I’ve loved it, but the customer service has been disappointing enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth, especially with now hitting a pole that the sensor would have alerted me was there to start with despite the blind spot in the other areas.
Jose
It’s ridiculous that they only give you a $50 credit on the window sticker for a features that either can never be retrofitted or it will be done months or years from now on terribly expensive vehicles. Some are exposing the public to collisions. GMC is greedy and doesn’t care about anyone, just their profits.
