2022 April Fools’ jokes from the auto industry

With so much heavy in the world right now, a good April Fool’s joke allows you to take a break and get a quick laugh. We always appreciate some good clean fun, and we appreciate the creativity from various automakers as they try to “fool” consumers.

But, we have to admit, some of these would be awesome if they were real.

Ram Truck Cover

In the truck world, loyalty is king. And if you’re a Ram owner, you may get sick of looking at your neighbor’s Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado sitting in the driveway. Ram has a plan for that. Cover it up! This one not only made us laugh out loud, but um, we think Ram should actually make these.

We love the clever idea and the subtle dig at its competitors.

Honda Pet Co-Pilot

Coming out of the UK, Honda revealed a front seat designed for pets. In addition to having a seat insert with spill-proof bowl holders, there are Isofix points for a dog harness attachment. My favorite feature: a snout-activated glovebox treat dispenser.

The press release says seats for cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish (!?) coming soon. OK, so the fish one is a bit far-fetched, but for cats and dogs – we think this is actually a brilliant idea to keep your pets close and safe during road trips!

Toyota Tundra Diesel?

And, of course, we couldn’t let the day pass without a little joke of our own. One of the most-viewed stories on our website is from a couple years ago about the potential of a Tundra diesel. So, Publisher Tim Esterdahl couldn’t resist getting people’s hopes up – even if it was just for a couple minutes.

The bottom line on auto industry April Fools’

Sure, there have been some jokes that have gone horribly awry (remember the Voltswagen debacle?), but for the most part, we find the auto industry April Fools’ jokes all in good fun. Especially after a tough couple years.

Is there something out there we missed? Comment below and we’ll get it added. Got a favorite auto industry prank from years past? Share it below!
