Share

If it’s been a while since you bought a truck and you’re ready to start shopping for a new truck, this video is for you. A viewer sent in this question: What’s the best 2022 truck for $60k? Publisher Tim Esterdahl sets out to answer this question, comparing some of the options currently available.

Be sure to watch the video below because Esterdahl really goes over each truck in a lot more detail than you’ll see here and you can see from his excitement that some of these trucks are really awesome choices.

The list below is ordered by the preference of the viewer who asked the questions with Ram and Nissan being added because we think they’re solid choices to consider.

2022 Toyota Tundra

This Tundra is so much better in nearly every category than any previous Tundra. Crew max, TRD off-road and Limited gives you the best of all the trims unless you’re really wanting to go luxury. In that case, check out the new Tundra Capstone.

Chevy / GMC

GMC is the more luxury brand, and Chevy is more of a work truck. So, which you choose will depend on your use and taste. For the 2022 models, the big change is the interior so definitely go 2022 instead of a 2021 model for comfort and updated technology. This may actually be the time to buy since you’ll find some discounts due to the semiconductor shortage. If you’re looking at a diesel, check out the 3.0-liter diesel. It’s just a fantastic truck. And the AT4 package is darn good-looking. Transmission issues may be a concern. Rust is another thing to watch out for on the GM trucks. Esterdahl’s choice would be the 3.0-liter diesel Chevy Silverado with the Trail Boss package. But the GMC Sierra with the AT4 package is awesome, too.

2022 Ford Trucks

The 2021 or 2022 F-150 XLT with the better technology package is a big winner. This is what Esterdahl owned last year and he really loved it. A few big pros for that one include the power onboard generator, the fuel economy of the EcoBoost hybrid engine, and the zone lighting, which is so helpful at night.

Ram trucks should be on your list

Overall, this is the best-looking truck. Ram also has the best-looking interiors and a coated undercarriage to prevent rust. And you can get the EcoDiesel for great fuel economy. This is what I drive so of course I’m going to add my vote to Esterdahl’s on this one. Anything after 2019 is going to have the third-gen diesel engine which is much more reliable than previous generations so you could find a deal on a 2020 or 2021 and still get a really good truck. I do not have the split tailgate, but I have seen one, and it’s pretty nifty. Another cool feature for Ram owners is the storage provided by optional Ram boxes, in-floor boxes, etc.

What about the Nissan Titan?

This is a really reliable and solid truck, and it was updated in 2020 to be a competitive truck. Not a lot of people talk about it, but it has one of the best warranties in the business. It’s not class-leading, but it’s solid. And it does not get the attention it deserves. Check it out here.

The best 2022 truck for $60k – Overall reliability

Tundra and Nissan are on top when it comes to long-term reliability. Chevy and GMC have some issues, but they seem to be sporadic. Ford and General Motors have some ongoing lawsuits over their 10-speed transmissions. They also have a history of rust issues and oil leaks. Ram has really come a long way and has come out on top for a lot of people. In short, if you’re looking for the best 2022 truck for $60k you have a lot of good choices this year!
