Having seen the revamped 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon in the flesh, we are very eager to see what the Cadillac Escalade will bring to the table for luxury SUV buyers. Entering its fifth generation, the Escalade is still a strong contender in this key market, but it has taken a pummeling from the Lincoln Navigator the past few years. While we have to wait until February 4th to see it in the flesh, Cadillac chose a very creative way to tease the upcoming luxobarge.
A new teaser image on Cadillac’s Instagram page features the Escalade showing more slin, but it is also accompanied by a special co-star, award winning director Spike Lee. The front fascia is still very bold, with a massive front grille reminiscent of the XT6 being flanked by all new headlights and vertically mounted daytime LED running lights. The look is noticeably different versus its Chevy and GMC siblings, but we will have to wait for the full unveiling to see the full suite of surprises the Escalade’s new clothes will bring to the party.
As for Spike Lee’s role, the director will feature the Escalade in his new mini film Anthem with the film being used during the Escalade’s coming out party. Meanwhile, Cadillac is promising a heavily revamped interior with a massive digital screen in the center dash, and a more focused attack on benchmark models in terms of quality and design of the cabin. Look for Anthem to drive home this point in suntle ways when it is shown to audiences.
Performance hardware is unknown, but look for its family heritage to shine through the most here, with the 5.3 liter from the Suburban/Yukon being carried over along with the 6.2 liter V8. Things get interesting however with the rumored performance variant which could get a supercharged version of the 6.2 liter V8.
All will be revealed February 4th, but Cadillac is off to a very good start in its efforts to re-establish the Escslade as king of the domestic luxury SUV crop.
