Would you drive a Kia pickup? Well, in 2020, you might get your chance.

According to a recent report from Autocar, Hyundai has confirmed it is sending a pickup truck into production for 2020. Hyundai design chief is quoted as saying the truck will be built “as soon as possible. From my side [design] it is finished, the process to put it into production is now under way.”

And the forthcoming truck, though likely based upon the Palasade SUV we saw last month in LA. Though the truck will share underpinnings with the Palasade, it’ll probably look a lot like the Santa Cruz concept shown above, which originally debuted at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

For better or worse (OK, let’s just call it: worse), Kia is slated to have its own version of the truck.

The real question is whether Hyundai and Kia will send the trucks to the American market. Chances are good it will, though. Trucks, as you know, are selling like hotcakes right now in the U.S. And there’s not been a subcompact pickup in the market in nearly a generation. So, it makes sense for Hyundai to fill that gap.
