2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to KnowOver the past few months, we have seen a slew of different spy photos of the new 2020 Ford Super Duty trucks. These photos confirm a new ones will be unveiled soon. Here are 5 things you need to know.

Styling

While it is hard to say what any new styling changes will be for sure, the camouflaged front ends don’t hide everything.

2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to KnowKGB spy photographers’ keen eye reports:

“The face of today’s Super Duty is defined by its two thick horizontal bars that fully envelope the massive Ford oval and dominate the grille opening. There are variations that strike out the central portion of the horizontal grille bars, but they’re still hinted at in the alternate designs. The latest prototypes show a new take on the Super Duty’s grille details, providing a lighter, more open grille area for a less heavy-handed look.”

2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to KnowSuper Duty Chassis Cab

“Our new shots of the Super Duty chassis crew-cab prototype cut through the front grille mesh, giving us a revealing look at one of the new grille designs. The new grille gets a pair of thinner horizontal bars, leaving an open area that runs through the center of the grille. The center section of the Ford oval now floats in the open-air grille section with the horizontal grille bars intersecting with only a fraction of the top and bottom of the badge. Open-air slits also reside at the top and bottom of the grille opening, framed in the horizontal bars.”

Super Duty Long Bed

“The Super Duty crew-cab long-bed prototype shows another sportier grille design. This new grille uses a new take on the dual horizontal grille bar theme, but the bars are much thinner and farther apart. This new chiseled design has a taller open section running horizontally through the center of the grille, which leaves the Ford oval floating in the center of the grille. The horizontal bars appear to be tied to the top and bottom of the grille opening, resulting in what appears to be two open slots above and below the oval. A thin detail emanates from each side of the oval, helping to visually anchor the badge in the center of the grille.”

2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to KnowF-350 Super Duty Dually

“The grille design on the F-350 dually prototype shows an open grille area without many of the details visible in the other grille designs. This grille design looks much cleaner than anything in the current Super Duty lineup and has some visual similarities to the 2019 F-150 grille on the Sport Package.”

New Gasoline Engine

A widely believed rumor is Ford will introduce a new gasoline engine replacing the older 6.2L V8 and 6.8L V10 engine.

In fact, a source told TFLTruck.com, the new engine is going to be a 7.3L V10 and it is already in the works. The source also sent in this screenshot of the information.

This new engine will likely produce more HP and torque than the current gas engine (385 hp @ 5,750 rpm, 430 lb.-ft. @ 3,800 rpm) as well as being lighter and more advanced than the older engine.

These changes should result in incremental fuel economy improvements and will produce better off the line towing power.

2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to Know10-Speed Transmissions

It is widely believed Ford will introduce 10-speed transmissions into its Super Duty line of pickups. This new transmission, co-developed with GM, has been a staple in all new pickups moving forward with even the new Ford Ranger having a 10-speed as standard equipment.

This transmission allows them to provide a smoother driving and towing experience with the additional gears while not changing the torque delivery when needed during towing.

Like the Ford Raptor, expect the new Super Duty trucks to have different drive modes which will alter the transmission response and even limited the number of gears available. This programming allows for the best of both worlds with the aforementioned power off the line and better cruising fuel economy.

2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to KnowNew Interior, More Features

If there is one thing you can absolutely count on it is the new Ford Super Duty will have a new interior and a slew of new features.

A new interior is a given with every new generation of Ford trucks and this will be no exception. We don’t anticipate Ford making any changes to their unique door design, coded entry on the outside nor the overall instrument panel. We do expect tweaks to the center stack, the radio and heat and cooling controls.

Other upgrades will likely be in towing and hauling features. It is very likely Ford will copy or innovate their own cell phone Apps and software mirroring what the competition is doing. For example, a trailer light check via your cell phone is one idea.

2020 Ford Super Duty - 5 Things You Need to KnowWhen Will it Come to Market?

Sadly, we are still months away from the truck likely hitting dealers lots. The new 2020 Ford Super Duty will make its appearance in January, 2019 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Then, there will be first drive programs for journalists and dealers in the summer. They may also do one of their consumer driving programs throughout the country.

In the fall of 2019, consumers should expect to see the new trucks on dealer lots.

Pricing, packing and the final details will be revealed throughout 2019.
