The 2027 Toyota Tundra has quietly appeared on Toyota’s official website under its “Upcoming Vehicles” section, potentially signaling that news about the full-size truck is just days away.
While browsing Toyota.com on July 20, I spotted a new card identifying the 2027 Tundra. The image was broken, and clicking the card led to an unfinished page at a legitimate Toyota URL created specifically for the upcoming truck.
Toyota has not officially announced the 2027 Tundra or detailed any changes. However, the timing, the unfinished web page and our previous conversations with the truck’s chief engineer give us plenty to consider.
Could this finally be the Toyota Tundra refresh we have been expecting?
2027 Toyota Tundra page appears early
Toyota’s website now lists three models under its Upcoming Vehicles section: the 2027 Tundra, 2027 Highlander and 2026 GRMN Corolla.
Unlike the other vehicles, the Tundra card does not display a photo. Instead, it shows a broken-image icon alongside the model name and 2027 model year.
The page was not functioning when we attempted to access it. That suggests Toyota may have added the Tundra listing before finishing the page or uploading all the supporting assets.
This does not tell us what is changing, but it confirms Toyota is preparing to promote the 2027 Tundra as an upcoming vehicle.
The timing also makes sense. Toyota announced the updated 2026 Tundra on July 22, 2025. With the 2027 listing appearing on July 20, 2026, an official announcement could be right around the corner.
Was the 2026 Toyota Tundra really a refresh?
I previously reported that a Toyota Tundra refresh was coming after spending time with Tundra Chief Engineer Sheldon Brown.
Brown had studied owner forums, watched videos and read articles to understand the shortcomings of the completely redesigned third-generation Tundra. Those complaints included the lack of factory recovery points, awkward rear-bumper access with the tailgate lowered and quality concerns such as rattling windows, shaking center consoles and inconsistent weatherstripping.
The 2026 Tundra did receive several useful changes. Toyota made the 32.2-gallon fuel tank standard, added rear air vents to Double Cab models, improved some interior materials and offered the Tacoma TRD Pro’s IsoDynamic Performance seats in the Tundra TRD Pro.
Toyota also gave the Capstone a more practical Shale-colored interior and introduced the Wave Maker exterior color for the TRD Pro.
Those were worthwhile improvements, but the truck did not receive the exterior redesign or more substantial updates normally associated with a midcycle refresh.
That raises an obvious question: Were the 2026 updates merely the first stage, with the more visible Tundra refresh being saved for 2027?
What could change on the 2027 Toyota Tundra?
The front end remains the most likely target for a meaningful update.
The current Tundra has a large grille and a broad piece of plastic below it, but it lacks the easily accessible factory recovery points found on many competing off-road trucks. Toyota has taken a different approach with newer products such as the Tacoma and 4Runner, particularly their Trailhunter models.
A revised Tundra front bumper could modernize the styling while creating room for properly engineered recovery points or tow hooks. It would also give Toyota an opportunity to bring the Tundra’s appearance closer to its newer body-on-frame vehicles.
Other possible changes include:
- Revised headlights, grille and front-bumper styling
- Factory recovery points or tow hooks
- Improved interior materials
- A redesigned wireless charging pad
- New exterior colors and wheel designs
- Additional standard technology
- Improvements addressing owner quality complaints
- A possible Tundra Trailhunter trim
A Tundra Trailhunter remains an intriguing possibility. Toyota previously displayed a Tundra Trailhunter concept incorporating equipment from aftermarket suppliers such as ARB. Trailhunter models are now available for the Tacoma, 4Runner and Land Cruiser, making the Tundra an obvious candidate.
However, none of these changes have been confirmed for 2027. The Toyota website currently confirms only the model year and that the company considers the truck an upcoming vehicle.
Is this the rumored Tundra Raptor fighter?
Probably not.
Toyota has been evaluating a much more aggressive high-performance Tundra intended to compete with trucks such as the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX.
A Toyota customer survey referenced a possible truck with long-travel suspension, 37-inch all-terrain tires, wide fenders, high-clearance bumpers and a more powerful engine. Camouflaged prototypes with substantial suspension and body modifications have also been spotted testing.
Our previous reporting pointed toward that truck arriving for the 2028 model year. Unless Toyota has accelerated the program, the 2027 listing is more likely connected to the standard Tundra lineup and a possible midcycle refresh.
Toyota could tease the high-performance model alongside the regular 2027 truck, but there is currently no evidence connecting the unfinished website page to that project.
What probably will not change
Do not expect the V8 to return.
The 2027 Tundra will most likely continue using Toyota’s twin-turbocharged i-FORCE V6 and the available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. The current hybrid produces 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, while both powertrains use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota has invested heavily in this engine family, and the company tends to make long-term product decisions based on global emissions requirements rather than short-term regulatory or political changes in the United States.
A diesel or heavy-duty Tundra is also highly unlikely.
The more realistic expectation is that Toyota will refine the existing truck instead of replacing its fundamental mechanical formula.
The bottom line
The unfinished listing does not prove the 2027 Toyota Tundra is receiving a major refresh. It does, however, show that Toyota is preparing an official page for the truck, and it appeared at nearly the same time of year that the company announced the 2026 model.
My best guess is that the 2027 Tundra will receive the more visible portion of the refresh, potentially including revised front-end styling, improved recovery-point access, additional quality fixes and perhaps a new Trailhunter trim.
The high-performance Tundra Raptor fighter is likely still farther away.
For now, we have a broken image, a live Toyota URL and one unmistakable label: 2027 Tundra.
