Ford Ranger recall: 230k trucks recalled for replacement air bags

Share

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2004-2006 Ranger vehicles that received replacement front passenger air bag inflators under a previous recall. For this Ford Ranger recall, the replacement front passenger air bag inflators may have been installed incorrectly.

An incorrectly installed inflator may not properly inflate the passenger air bag, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will inspect and reinstall the front passenger air bag inflator, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 22, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 23S08. This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 23V-125.

The 2004-2006 Rangers fall into the third generation of the truck in the U.S. — before it went on hiatus for seven years and was brought back to the states in the 2019 model year. The 2004 Ford Ranger currently has 12 recalls. If you own a 2004-2006 Ford Ranger, be sure to consult the NHTSA recalls portion of the website and type in the specific VIN of your truck to see if this recall — or any other — applies to your vehicle.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
