Hell yes! Dodge brings back 2023 Durango Hellcat for last hurrah

We know the death knell has already started to ring for the Hemi V-8 engine powering Dodge muscle – and that includes the one in the Durango. But in some hellah good news, the performance-oriented brand is bringing back the Durango Hellcat for one last bow in 2023.

The super-powered three-row SUV was supposed to be a one-and-done for the 2021 model year, but we can’t imagine a better way to say goodbye to this beloved powertrain.

Just don’t expect anything too different than what we saw previously.

Under the hood

The 2023 Durango Hellcat retains the 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi we see in the Challenger and Charger Hellcats as well as the Ram TRX. In this iteration it delivers 710 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. You’re also looking at 0-to-60-MPH times of 3.5 – and we’re talking about a vehicle that weighs nearly 6k pounds!

Performances goodies

Of course the 2023 Durango Hellcat is going to be chockfull of performance parts. Some of the things you’ll see for this model year include:

  • A cold-air scoop in the lower front fascia
  • Exhaust tuned to deliver Dodge DNA sound
  • Rear spoiler that provides rear downforce of 140 pounds at 180 MPH
  • SRT drive modes with a setting for Track
  • Launch control
  • Brembo high-performance, six-piston two-piece (front) and four-piston (rear) calipers

You’ll also have some interior design features that set this performance kitty cat apart from other trims, including red-accented gauges, embroidered SRT logos on the seats and a “Smoke Show” start-up animation.

Customization packs

The 2023 Durango Hellcat will offer two optional packages: Plus and Premium. Plus adds high-performance Laguna leather seats, trailer tow group, a power sunroof and advanced safety features. The Premium Package piggy backs off the Plus and adds red seatbelts, leather-wrapped instrument panel, carbon fiber interior accents and a 19-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system.

We’re just going to say yes to all of that.

When can I get it?

The 2023 Durango Hellcat opens for orders in September of 2022, but there’s no word yet on when the SUVs will actually make it to dealers.

The bottom line on the 2023 Durango Hellcat

We loved the Dodge Durango Hellcat when we had the chance to take a quick spin in it a couple years ago, and we imagine we’ll love it just as much in 2023. Perhaps more because this is the last chance to drive one.

If you’ve lusted over this vehicle, we’ll say this plain: Buy. It. Now. Because once it’s gone, it’s gone for good this time.
