When publisher Tim Esterdahl bought his F-150 PowerBoost last winter, he knew he would only be driving it for about a year. In the past eight months, he has taken his viewers along for the ride, producing and publishing more thanĀ 30 videos about this truck.

Why buy a truck you don’t plan to keep?

For Esterdahl, buying the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost was a business decision. His business did well last year, and he was going to owe quite a bit in taxes. His CPA recommended buying a vehicle for the business, and Esterdahl saw an opportunity to get the newest, latest and greatest truck on the market as well as share his experience with his readers.

He wanted to go through the process of buying a new Ford, working through any regular maintenance or recalls at the dealer and using the truck on a daily basis to see how it held up to rural life. From long road trips to weekend camping, Esterdahl has done it all in his F-150 hybrid pickup truck.

He’s even used it to power his house during a power outage.

How and why he sold the F-150 PowerBoost

Knowing the rest of his summer and fall would be busy with travel and back-to-back reviews of other vehicles, Esterdahl knew the F-150 PowerBoost wouldn’t get much more use before the end of the year, and he has pretty much run out of ideas for things to make videos about. So, he decided it would be good time to go ahead and sell.

After researching the current value of the truck, he looked into different ways to sell it. Esterdahl didn’t really want to bother with selling privately since he knew he wouldn’t be home much to show it to interested parties. Therefore, he talked to reps from AutoNation, Vroom and Carvana as well as his local Ford dealership. Turns out the dealership would give him the most for the truck, and they’d be able to purchase it before the next payment was due.

In the video below Esterdahl goes into greater detail on how much each place offered him — and how much he made selling the truck after just 8 months and 6,800 miles.

What comes next?

Yes, Esterdahl plans to do this again. Late this winter he will place an order for a new truck, and he’ll make a whole new set of videos and blog posts about it. What will he buy? You’ll just have to watch the video below to find out!
