In this video, Publisher Tim Esterdahl rented a camper to take to the lake for the weekend with his 2021 Ford F-150 Powerboost pickup so he could do a good test running the A/C in the camper off the Ford F-150 hybrid generator.
I won’t go into too much detail in this post since Esterdahl does an excellent job of explaining everything in his video, but a couple of things stand out.
Upon plugging in the camper the truck sensed the request for power, and a notification popped up on the screen to let Esterdahl know something was plugged in and to ask if he wanted to send power to that outlet. I love smart features like that.
The truck knows when to cycle on and off to recharge the batteries as the power is drained, making sure the the F-150’s Pro Power Onboard always has enough juice to run not just the camper’s A/C but also the refrigerator and lights.
After plugging things in and confirming the truck was cycling on and off as it should, Esterdahl left the Ford F-150 hybrid generator to power the camper while he spent 2 hours down at the lake. When he came back he calculated the fuel usage and figured that powering the camper off the truck’s onboard generator used approximately 12 miles of range.
At the end of last year, Esterdahl bought a 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost pickup truck. He has been creating videos all year to help owners and potential customers learn more about this new hybrid pickup truck. We’ll link to some of those videos below. For now, we’d love to hear your thoughts on Esterdahl’s experiment.
