The Nissan Frontier may have a radically updated replacement waiting in the pipeline, but that isn’t stopping Nissan from making some final batches of lemonade with the updated 2020 Frontier. That includes using the venerable nameplate to debut an all new lineup of off-road ready parts created by NISMO which will be put to good use at the grueling 2020 Rebelle Rally in October.
Yes NISMO is usually associated with some of Nissan’s more pavement-focused models including the GT-R and the 370Z, but it appears that the brand is looking to expand to the off-road market. In this instance, NISMO is using the 2020 Nissan Frontier as a compelling template for some of these parts, and will have the opportunity to get some real world testing in via the rally.
They include a high-performance off-road suspension that is designed to give the Frontier better composure and poise when going through rough sections of terrain, or even when crawling through more technical obstacles. A custom front bumper is also on board, and it comes equipped with built-in off-road lighting. A handsome set of off-road wheels round things out, and they help give the Rebelle Rally truck a very distinctive profile when viewed alongside some of its competitors.
“We are fired up to watch Team Wild Grace show current and future Nissan Frontier owners what this beast can do on some of the most extreme terrain in the country,” said Michael Soutter, vice president, Nissan Aftersales U.S. “These new NISMO off-road parts, created by people who deeply understand trucks and the desire for ultimate off-road performance, will elevate Frontier to a new level of capability.”
Nissan has the distinction of being the only automaker to host a team every year in the all-women event, and has done so since the rally first began in 2016. This year, the Frontier will be driven by Team Wild Grace and their co-captains Sedona Blinson and Lyn Woodward. Both women are eager to get out on the route, and are also very confident about the Frontier’s chances at winning the event.
“We’ve taken the 2020 Frontier on a couple of trial runs, and it’s been an absolute rock star,” said Woodward. “I’m very excited about the extra power in the V6 – it’s a solid truck, and that’s what you need to compete out here.
When NISMO’s lineup of off-road parts eventually make their way to Nissan showrooms this fall, they will be available for a wide range of Nissan models. They include 2005 to 2020 model year Frontiers, 2016 to 2021 Nissan Titan variants, and 2005 to 2015 Nissan Xterra models. Buyers interested in adding these parts to their vehicles can purchase them through a Nissan dealer, a NISMO approved retailer, or through NISMOparts.nissanusa.com.
