Ram’s multifunction tailgate made waves when it first debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in February. A response to GM’s MultiPro tailgate solution, Ram’s entry in the tailgate wars allows buyers to go from a traditional tailgate, to a novel 60/40 set of split doors that are supposed to help make loading bulky items easier. But what if you need to climb into the bed to make sure that the load is formally secured?

Ram now has you covered with an all-new bed step solution.

Known as Part No. 82216265AB, this Mopar Bed Step was designed to work with the multifunction tailgate on the Ram 1500 and is made out of rugged high-strength aluminum, with the step itself being coated in tasteful black paint. Operating it is also an easy process, with owners only needing to push the rear mounted step with their foot to make it fully extend or retract. When it’s fully extended, the step provides a solid foothold and can support up to 350 pounds with no fuss.

“Mopar offers more than 600 quality-tested, factory-backed parts and accessories across the entire Ram lineup,” said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar service, parts and customer care, FCA – North America. “Our retractable bed step further enhances the convenience and utility of Ram’s industry-leading cargo management and storage system.”

The step is available to order now, with Mopar charging $395 for the component. This pricing allows this particular component to fall in line with the other bed steps Mopar already offers on the rest of the Ram lineup. As a bonus, the step is fully covered by a two-year/unlimited-mile warranty or the remainder of the equipped truck’s three-year/36,000-mile warranty, which helps provide confidence and peace of mind.
