The Toyota Tacoma has always been a benchmark in the mid-size pickup segment, and with 33 different configurations to choose from, the Tacoma enters 2021 with minor changes to help retain its spot on the top sellers list.
Toyota revealed that the Tacoma has managed to be the top selling mid-size pickup for 15 straight years, and the company has chosen to enter the new model year by doing what it can to spice up the Tacoma slightly. This includes an all new Trail Edition which was revealed back in February at the Chicago Auto Show. Pricing for this model will begin at $34,005 in 4×2 form, and $37,080 in 4×4 trim. A new Nightshade edition is also available, with the sinister variant helping the mid-size pickup follow the script of other Toyota SUV and pickups, which offer both special editions in their model lineups.
In the case of the Tacoma, a base Nightshade edition will start at $39,905 or $42,980 for the addition of four wheel drive. For those that need a brief refresher, Nightshade models infuse dark trim elements into the Tacoma, with the look reflecting the recent trend in the segment towards embracing the dark side.
With 2020 bringing a design refresh to the Tacoma, 2021 instead focuses on the more subtle side of life, with Toyota making a number of subtle equipment updates. For example, dual-zone air conditioning is now standard equipment on all V6 models, along with a premium sound system, and even a first aid kit on SR5 and above trim levels.Â

Meanwhile, the TRD Pro model pitches Army Green for 2021 to help make room for the all new Lunar Rock hue. If your a customer that prefers to wait for the appearance of the next generation model, you might have to wait awhile for it to arrive. Various reports suggests that the next generation model will not arrive until as early as 2024, but it could finally unify with its international market cousin the Hilux to not only speed up development, but also reduce production costs.Â
