A recall of 328,381 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles for rear coil springs that may detach.
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE vehicles. The rear coil springs may be incorrectly installed and detach from the vehicle while driving.

Descriptive Information
Some 2022-2023 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, 2021-2023 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles, and 2022-2023 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV vehicles may experience a rear coil spring that may not be correctly installed, allowing the coil spring to come out of position.
The suspect periods began on May 17, 2021 for Jeep Grand Cherokee, December 5, 2020 for Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and August 4, 2021 for Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV, when the first suspect vehicles were produced. The suspect periods ended on May 31, 2023, when FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) no longer shipped vehicles with a potentially out of position rear coil spring. Vehicle production records were used to determine the suspect period.
Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built after the suspect period or were built with an air suspension system.
Description of defect or noncompliance:
An incorrectly installed rear coil spring may come out of position and, possibly, detach from the vehicle while driving.
Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:
A rear coil spring that detaches from the vehicle while driving creates a road hazard to operators and occupants of other vehicles, and can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or may result in injury to other road users.

Chronology
On June 1, 2023, the FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain vehicles resulting in recall NHTSA ID 23V-413/FCA US ID 64A (“64A”).
On September 30, 2025, NHTSA sent FCA US a pre-investigation request identifying 20 complaints made to the Agency regarding coil spring separation after the 64A recall repair had been completed.
On October 14, 2025, FCA US provided the requested information to NHTSA, including 70 potentially related similar claims mined from internal data.
On November 20, 2025, the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation into some 2021-2023 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles that may experience a rear coil spring that detaches from the vehicle after the 64A recall repair had been completed.
From November 2025 through January 2026, FCA US TSRC met with FCA Engineering to review the issue, to understand the failure mode, review customer records and to determine the suspect population.
On January 22, 2026, the FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain vehicles resulting in NHTSA ID 26V-051/FCA US ID 20D (“20D”).
Between July 7, 2026, and July 29, 2026, NHTSA sent FCA US several VOQ complaints and a meeting was held between the agency and FCA US to discuss the issue.
On July 24, 2026, the FCA US TSRC organization opened a new investigation into some 2021- 2023 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles that may experience a rear coil spring that detaches from the vehicle after the 64A and 20D recall repairs had been completed.
As of August 6, 2026, FCA US is aware of 29 customer assistance records, 406 warranty claims, and no field reports potentially relating to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from July 15, 2023, to July 28, 2026.
As of August 6, 2026, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
On August 26, 2026, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, that a safety defect exists in certain vehicles.
Remedy
Description of Remedy
Remedy Type: Replace
Description of remedy program:
FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to replace both rear coil spring lower isolators.
How remedy component differs from recalled component:
This recall is not related to a part defect but rather an assembly or repair issue where the vehicle may have been manufactured or repaired with an out of position rear coil spring assembly. The remedy will be to replace both rear coil spring lower isolators.
Description of recall schedule:
09/01/2026: FCA US will notify dealers on or about 09/09/2026 and begin notifying owners on or about 09/29/2026.
