A recall of 11,405 Ford Ranger trucks for rearview cameras that may not display an image.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2026 Ranger vehicles equipped with a 10.1-inch center stack screen. The screen may lose power and fail to display the rearview camera image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”

Affected VINs should be searchable now at the NHTSA website.

Here is the relevant information from the NHTSA Recall notice:

NHTSA ID Number: 26V605

Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company

Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION, EQUIPMENT

Potential Number of Units Affected: 11,405

Estimated percentage with defect: 47%

Descriptive Information

Affected vehicles were identified using supplier and Ford manufacturing traceability records. Ford’s traceability process links the suspect capacitor lot to the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) serial number, through to the final Center Stack assembly serial number, and directly to the affected Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Vehicles equipped with Center Stack assemblies containing verified conforming capacitors, are not included in this recall.

These vehicles are not produced in VIN order. Information as to the applicability of this action to specific vehicles can best be obtained by either calling Ford’s toll-free line (1-866-436-7332) or by contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealer who can obtain specific information regarding the vehicles from the Ford On-line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database.

Description of defect or noncompliance:

Affected vehicles may experience an unexpected blank or black SYNC 4 Center Stack display. If this occurs, the rear-view camera (RVC) image will be unavailable when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. These vehicles may fail to comply with S5.5.1, S5.5.3, and S5.5.6 of FMVSS 111.

Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:

A rear-view camera that does not display an image while in reverse can reduce the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Description of the cause:

The 10.1-inch Center Stack screen may exhibit a blank or black screen condition due to a loss of power to the 10.1-inch display module. The power loss is caused by an open display fuse triggered by an electrical short circuit on the Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) due to a cracked multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC). Component analysis determined that the affected MLCCs exhibit an out-of-specification Dissipation Factor (DF%) and are suspected counterfeit components that fail to meet engineering and material specifications.

Identification of any warning that can occur:

Blank infotainment screen.

Chronology

On August 14, 2026, Ford’s Pre-Investigation Review (PIR) opened an investigation following an early warranty claim trend identified by the Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) at Michigan Assembly Plant (MAP), involving 2026 model year (MY) Ford Ranger vehicles exhibiting a black center screen display at low Time in Service (TIS) and low mileage.

On August 20, 2026, the issue was presented to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG). CCRG reviewed the teardown and failure analysis conducted on six warranty return parts confirmed the root cause to be an electrical short circuit resulting from a cracked capacitor on the display Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA), leading to a black screen condition. Further analysis indicated that a specific batch of PCBA’s had been assembled using substandard capacitors that were subject to this failure. The substandard capacitors are believed to be potentially counterfeit parts.

Between August 20 and September 10, 2026, a cross-functional Ford engineering and supply chain team analyzed production and part trace records to determine the scope of the affected population. In parallel, on September 2, 2026, the Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) issued a Quality Reject Notification in North America to quarantine suspect service inventory. Traceability analysis was completed, identifying an affected population of 11,405 vehicles (2026MY Ford Ranger) and 46 service parts.

CCRG evaluated compliance against Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111, S5.5 (Rear Visibility), including sections S5.5.1 (Field of View), S5.5.2 (Size), S5.5.3 (Response Time), S5.5.4 (Linger Time), S5.5.5 (Deactivation), and S5.5.6 (Default View). If the center stack display experiences a black screen, the rearview image cannot be displayed when the vehicle is placed in Reverse at the start of a backing event. Consequently, the subject vehicles may fail to meet the Response Time (S5.5.3) and Field of View / Default View (S5.5.1 / S5.5.6) requirements of FMVSS No. 111.

As of September 14, 2026, Ford is aware of 15 warranty claims in North America potentially related to this condition. Ford is not aware of any VOQs attributable to this condition.

On September 15, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
