Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer L vehicles. The brake system control module software may cause a loss of electronic stability control and a loss of electronic brake assist. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems” and 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.”

Affected VINs should be searchable now at the NHTSA website.

Here is the relevant information from the NHTSA Recall notice:

NHTSA ID Number: 26V414

Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC), SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Potential Number of Units Affected: 11,980

Estimated percentage with defect: 100%

Descriptive Information

Some 2026 Model Year Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L vehicles may have been built with a Brake System Control Module (“BSCM”) with suspect software which may disable Electronic Stability Control (“ESC”) and may lose electronic brake assist.

The suspect period began in June 2025, when the first 2026 Model Year vehicles were produced, and ended on February 16, 2026, when the last suspect vehicle was produced. The suspect period was determined using supplier and vehicle production records.

Similar vehicles not included in this recall were built after the suspect period or were repaired prior to being released from plant control.

Description of defect or noncompliance:

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (“FMVSS”) No.126 S5.1.2 requires that the Electronic Stability Control (“ESC”) “[i]s operational during all phases of driving including acceleration, coasting, and deceleration (including braking) […].” A BSCM with suspect software may not allow proper ESC function during all phases of driving.

FMVSS No. 135 S7 requires certain testing to be performed using the specified test methods. Suspect vehicles may lose electronic brake assist and be unable to meet the performance requirements of FMVSS No. 135.

Description of the safety risk, including crash, fire, death, injury:

A BSCM with suspect software can cause a loss of ESC function and/or electronic brake assist, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.

Description of the cause:

None stated.

Identification of any warning that can occur:

None prior to failure. Once the BSCM has faulted, multiple warning lights may illuminate in the instrument panel cluster.
