Trailer backup-assist technology has come a long way since we learned to drive. From camera displays that help you add to your trailer to sensors that help predict the movement of your trailer, these tools are all designed to make life a little easier. It seems Ford’s trailer backup assist changed for the 2021 model year, but no one has really talked about it. In fact, Publisher Tim Esterdahl couldn’t find anything about the 2021 Ford F-150 trailer backup assist in the media release.
Before you start poking fun…
We all know the “real men” will say one shouldn’t need these new-fangled cameras and sensors to back up a trailer. But let’s face it: We don’t “need” remotes to turn on TV’s or Alexa to turn off the lights either. We use these things because they save time and make life easier. For some of us, trailer backup assist technology is life-changing. For experienced people like Esterdahl, it’s a great little tool to make a sometimes difficult job just a little bit easier.
New for F-150 trailer backup assist
Gone is the sticker/manual measurements and data input of the old system. Welcome a new sensor that mounts right on your trailer and connects to the truck. It even comes with ties for extra cable and a custom receptacle for safely storing the plug when it’s not attached to your truck. Is this the future of trailer backup assist? We think maybe so!
Check out how easy this installation is and how seamless the integration is. Esterdahl even filmed the calibration process so you could see how easy it is to set up.
This 2021 Ford F-150 trailer backup assist video is a must-watch for any 2021 Ford F-150 owner.
