When GM announced that it was reviving the Hummer nameplate for an all new EV pickup offering during the Super Bowl, it came with plenty of fanfare, including an appearance from NBA star LeBron James. GM promised that the Hummer pickup would be unveiled in May, but that event has now been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to this announcement, the Hummer pickup was supposed to make its debut on May 20th, but the ongoing pandemic, as well as the changing dynamics related to it forced GMC to cancel the event. The brand did release a brief statement confirming that the unveiling is postponed, and that work is still continuing on the truck, which we have included here below.

“While we cannot wait to show the GMC HUMMER EV to the world, we will reschedule the May 20 reveal date. In the meantime, the team’s development work continues on track and undeterred. We invite all to stay tuned for more stories on this super truck’s incredible capability leading up to its official debut.”

Parts of this statement especially the portions featuring the words “on track and undeterred” could indicate that the broader production schedule for the truck is still on course, with GMC originally planning to have the Hummer EV pickup in showrooms by the fall of 2021 where it will be sold as a 2022 model. This time frame would have allowed the truck to arrive roughly at the same time as the Tesla Cybertruck, while also getting the jump on a whole host of other EV truck rivals. But with the Hummer so far not being sighted as of yet by spy photographers, it could be a sign that there could possibly be broader delays on the program, especially in terms of development and potential production delays.

But all is not lost, with GMC releasing a brand new teaser video of the Hummer pickup rolling through a forest trail. As expected from a video like this, it does not offer any discernible detail, with GMC opting for an extreme birds eye view, but the clip does appear to confirm that it will be a four door offering with a short bed. The truck also appears to have a glass roof, though the angle could also be hiding the removable roof panels that are rumored to be offered on the truck. Look for more information to be potentially released later this year, especially after the pandemic subsides.
