Plowing snow is a reality that plagues certain parts of the country (this author’s home state of Michigan being a notorious example of this.) Plow technology has come a long way, but you still need a noble steed to hook it up to. Ram has answered the call, with the unveiling of the all new Snow Plow prep package for the 1500 pickup.
Avalible on Tradesman Big Horn, and Laramie models. The $195 optional extra includes goodies such as a 220-amp alternator, the wiring needed to hook the pliw up to the truck, as well as a rear window defroster to help keep the view clear when preparing to push a load of snow. Ram engineers fod have to sacrifice some efficiency with the active air dam system being removed to create room for some of the wiring.
The Ram 1500 is typically known for its trio of engine options, but for this package, the Pentastar V6 gets to take a break, with the package only being equipped to trucks with either the 5.7 Hemi V8, the eTorque variant, or the 3.0 liter Ecodiesel V6. But while the package helps with compatibility, buyers will still have to supply the plow, mounts, and controller which are all available from several manufacturers.
