Details are scant but Subaru has just announced that the 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid will be the company’s first PHEV when it arrives on lots later this year.
Subaru promises that the Crosstrek Hybrid will have all the same capability as the current fully-gasoline powered Crosstrek but also have increased fuel efficiency. Like other PHEVs, the crossover will be able to be driven using both gas and electric power on purely on electricity.
The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will is a product of Subaru’s partnership with Toyota and uses the Toyota Hybrid System with Subaru’s four-cylinder direct-injection BOXER engine, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and an all-new transmission. The vehicle is built on the Subaru Global Platform, which was initially designed to accommodate hybrid and electric powertrains.
The Crosstrek Hybrid will also feature unique styling that alludes to the car’s powertrain.
Range, price, and the on-sale date will be announced later.
