Last night, on the eve of SEMA 2026, Tim Kuniskis and the Mopar team introduced the Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept, and it might be one of the coolest Jeep concepts we have seen in many moons. As a concept, it is pretty badass, but based on comments during the media preview, this Wrangler Scrambler could be close to production form. As a production model, this would be the most extreme Jeep to reach showrooms.

“The original Scrambler became an icon because it broke the rules. It looked different, worked differently and represented a certain kind of freedom that resonated with enthusiasts then and still does today,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of American Brands, SRT Performance and Direct Connection division, Stellantis North America. “We asked ourselves a more provocative question: what happens when SRT stops treating the trail as the limit and builds the ultimate open-air desert weapon? The Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept is our answer.”

The inspiration for the overall form of the new Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept is the CJ-8 Scrambler, but there is also clear design influence from the 1960s J-Series pickups. The result is a very muscular off-road machine that is obviously based on the Wrangler architecture, but it is far more than just a Wrangler with a handful of upgrades from the Mopar or Jeep Performance Parts catalog. The new SRT Scrambler Concept is its own vehicle on a Wrangler chassis, and based on what we know so far, this is one of the most capable concept vehicles that the team has created.

Fittingly, the new Scrambler Concept is also the first high-speed, desert-performance Jeep concept to wear the SRT badge, and best of all, it packs Hemi V8 power.

Creating the New Jeep Scrambler

The Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept is based on the current Wrangler chassis, but other than the chassis and a portion of the “greenhouse,” the bodywork of this vehicle is unique. The team redesigned the entire vehicle ahead of the A-pillar, creating a front end that is reminiscent of the ’60s J-Series trucks. Next, they stretched the doors a bit, followed by custom rear bodywork that incorporates the truck bed, while the prominent wheel flares make plenty of room for the 37-inch tires on bronze-painted beadlock wheels. The frame has also been lengthened by about 10 inches to create more bed space.

The exterior build of the Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept also includes off-road LED lights and a custom front bumper, with the full package finished in Punk’n orange paint.

A Truly Unique Interior

For the most part, the front seat area of the Scrambler SRT Concept is similar to the current production Wrangler, with a shared steering wheel, gauge cluster, infotainment screen, HVAC control panel, shifter and center console. However, the new Scrambler Concept has the sport bucket seats from the current Dodge Charger for the driver and front passenger, along with a functional roll cage that you won’t find in any production Wrangler.

More importantly, the new Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept has a rear bench seat that can be mounted facing either the front or rear of the vehicle, or it can be removed altogether to make more cargo space. With the rear seat in place, this concept offers 40 inches of cargo space, while removing the seat increases the available bed length to 71 inches. The bed is 59 inches wide and 23 inches deep, offering 55.75 cubic feet of total cargo space out back.

Hemi Power and Independent Front Suspension

The new Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept is powered by the 392-cubic-inch, 6.4-liter Hemi V8, offering 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels by means of an eight-speed automatic transmission and a heavy-duty four-wheel-drive system, of course.

What really makes this new Scrambler so unique is that it features a Currie Industries independent front suspension system, making this the first Wrangler with an independent front suspension (IFS). Out back, this SRT Jeep Concept has a Currie Industries trophy-truck-style straight axle, providing 14 inches of front wheel travel and 15 inches of rear travel. A similar suspension setup was used when Casey Currie drove his custom Jeep Gladiator “Striker” to a class victory at the NORRA 500, so there is no question that this new SRT concept can blast across the sand with confidence and stability.

“The Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept combines everything enthusiasts love about Jeep vehicles: capability, open-air freedom and authenticity, with the power, control and relentless performance mindset that define SRT,” Kuniskis continued. “It is overbuilt and engineered around the idea that the desert can be every bit as demanding as a racetrack. It is unapologetic by design.”
