The Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV are closely related battery-electric pickups in General Motors’ lineup. Both debuted for the 2024 model year. This guide separates specific safety recalls from manufacturer service guidance; neither a recall count nor a bulletin establishes how frequently an entire model line experiences problems.

As with any relatively new vehicle platform, early production has brought some problems. Recalls have addressed high-voltage battery components and electric drive units, seatbelts and exterior lighting. The campaigns below have different model-year and equipment limits, and some involve only a handful of vehicles.

Here’s what owners and prospective buyers should know about Silverado EV and Sierra EV recalls, technical service bulletins and documented service concerns.

Recall and service-bulletin information below comes from GM documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Applicability depends on the vehicle’s VIN, equipment and production history.

## Silverado EV / Sierra EV Powertrain and Battery Problems

The following recalls concern high-voltage batteries and electric drive units. They do not apply to every Silverado EV or Sierra EV; use a VIN check to establish whether a particular truck is included.

**Unsecured High-Voltage Battery Component (26V-494):** Certain 2026 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks may have an internal battery-module component that is not fully secured. Movement can damage the battery and increase fire risk. [GM’s September 2026 amended filing](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V494-6339.pdf>) identifies four Silverado EVs and one Sierra EV within an 11-vehicle campaign spanning five models. Dealers replace affected high-voltage batteries.

**Rear Drive-Unit Wiring (24V-320):** Certain 2024 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks may have insufficient insulation on electric-motor wires in the rear drive unit, allowing wires to contact one another and interrupt propulsion. Dealers replace the rear drive unit free of charge. [The original campaign](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCAK-24V320-8029.pdf>) covered only 10 vehicles across five GM models, not 10 Silverado/Sierra trucks alone.

## Other Recalls for the Silverado EV / Sierra EV

The following are selected additional recalls for the Silverado EV and Sierra EV, identified by their NHTSA campaign numbers. Model-year and equipment restrictions matter. This is not an exhaustive VIN-specific recall list.

**Steel-Wheel Cracking (26V-496):** This campaign covers certain 2026 Silverado EVs with steel road wheels and/or steel spare wheels, and certain 2026 Sierra EVs with steel spare wheels. Cracks at the wheel-disc vent holes can progress to separation and impaired steering. [The filing](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCLRPT-26V496-1031.pdf>) identifies 952 vehicles: 513 Silverados and 439 Sierras. Dealers inspect suspect wheels and replace them as necessary.

**Electronic Owner’s Manual Unavailable (26V-114):** Certain 2026 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks are included in a broader GM campaign because the radio may not have been configured to download the electronic owner’s manual during production. [Dealers reset the radio](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2026/RCAK-26V114-6321.pdf>) to facilitate the automatic download, free of charge.

**ESC Warning-Light Software (25V-594):** Certain 2026 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks may fail to illuminate the electronic stability-control malfunction indicator on the next key cycle after an ESC malfunction. [The campaign](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V594-0234.pdf>) covers 1,191 trucks. The remedy is updated electronic brake-control-module software, installed by a dealer or through an applicable over-the-air update.

**Rear-Center Seatbelt Attachment (25V-015):** Five 2024 Silverado EV and 2024-2025 Sierra EV trucks were recalled for a rear-center seatbelt attachment bolt that may not have been tightened correctly. [GM said all five were held in dealer inventory](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V015-3863.PDF>) when the recall was announced. Dealers tighten the bolt to specification.

**Insufficient Pedestrian-Warning Sound (24V-937):** Certain 2025 Silverado EV Work Trucks may have incorrect sound-system software calibration and fail to produce the required exterior sound volume while stationary. [This 46-vehicle campaign](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCRIT-24V937-6761.pdf>) calls for a dealer update to the body control module software.

**Front Turn-Signal Visibility (24V-755):** Certain 2024 Sierra EVs have front turn signals and parking lamps whose brightness is too similar, potentially making the signals difficult for other road users to distinguish. [Dealers replace the headlamp multipurpose LED-driver module](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCAK-24V755-8614.pdf>) free of charge.

**Rear-Center Seatbelt Bezel (24V-087):** Certain 2024 Silverado EVs have an incorrect bezel that can damage or tear the rear-center seatbelt during a crash. Dealers replace the bezel. [GM’s owner notice](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCRIT-24V087-5225.pdf>) says passengers should not use the rear-center seat until the recall repair is completed.

**Front Seatbelt Buckle Bolts (23V-786):** Certain 2024 Silverado EVs were included in a separate campaign, alongside Hummer EV models, for left or right front seatbelt buckle attachment bolts that may not have been tightened to specification. [Dealers tighten both front buckle attachment bolts](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RCONL-23V786-1964.pdf>). This is not the rear-center seatbelt recall and does not list the Sierra EV.

## Technical Service Bulletins for the Silverado EV / Sierra EV

A TSB is a notice and instructions from the manufacturer to dealerships and technicians regarding diagnostic, repair, or replacement procedures for known issues. A TSB isn’t necessarily evidence of a widespread problem. It is manufacturer guidance for diagnosing or addressing a particular condition. Some address relatively uncommon issues, while others concern recurring customer complaints.

**Front Clunk Over Rough Roads (PIT6492):** [GM’s March 2026 preliminary information](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2026/MC-11029952-0001.pdf>) covers 2024-2026 Silverado EV and 2026 Sierra EV trucks with FE2 suspension. It describes front clunking over rough roads or bumps. Engineering was investigating; the document directs inspection of steering, suspension, driveline and related components rather than prescribing a confirmed universal repair.

**NACS Adapter Warranty Administration (24-NA-202):** This is warranty guidance, not evidence of a recurring vehicle defect. [GM’s December 2024 bulletin](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11012703-0001.pdf>) describes a one-year limited parts warranty from purchase for the original purchaser of an eligible GM NACS DC adapter. Dealers verify proof of purchase and inspect for damage or misuse before processing a covered replacement.

**High-Voltage Battery Diagnostic Data (25-NA-044):** [The February 2025 bulletin](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11015223-0001.pdf>) includes 2024-2025 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks. It instructs qualified technicians to retrieve battery data through SPS2 before diagnosis, programming, code clearing or resets when investigating relevant high-voltage battery concerns. It is diagnostic guidance, not a blanket instruction to replace a battery or evidence of a particular failure rate.

**Turn-Signal Camera View (PIT6366B):** For 2026 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks, [GM directs technicians](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2026/MC-11027885-0001.pdf>) first to verify that the vehicle has TRG Trailer Camera Provisions; vehicles without that equipment do not have this feature. If an equipped truck’s view does not work without a trailer connected, the bulletin directs radio reprogramming using the applicable latest 25-NA-021 instructions.

## Other Documented Electronic Concerns

These manufacturer documents identify additional electronic concerns under specified conditions. They do not measure how commonly the problems occur, and a technician should confirm applicability before choosing a repair.

**Gateway-Module Warnings After Low Voltage (PIT6512A):** [GM’s August 2026 preliminary information](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2026/MC-11036194-0001.pdf>) includes 2024-2026 Silverado EV and Sierra EV trucks. A software anomaly can cause P0604/P0607 gateway-module codes after a low-voltage event. GM describes an interim dealer reset procedure and reserves module replacement for specified cases where the codes return. The bulletin does not establish a cold-weather temperature threshold or a failure rate.

**No-Start or Communication Problems Following an Interrupted Update (PIT5985K):** [This January 2026 diagnostic bulletin](<https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2026/MC-11027932-0001.pdf>) includes 2024-2026 Silverado EV WT/RST and Sierra Denali EV trucks. It describes conditions that can follow CAN-bus issues, a failed over-the-air update or certain voltage events. Technicians diagnose module communication and may attempt software recovery. It does not mean every failed download disables a vehicle, or establish how commonly this happens.
