The 2027 Silverado HD diesel price is climbing by more than the engine-option increase alone suggests. Chevrolet is adding $1,500 to the cost of choosing the new 8.3L Duramax, while the Silverado 2500HD’s base prices rise another $1,000 to $1,500. Put those together and diesel buyers face a combined increase of $2,500 to $3,000, depending on trim.

Chevrolet spokesman Chad Lyons sent me the pricing update in an October 6 email following GM’s powertrain immersion event. We already knew the new diesel was bringing a substantial jump in output. Now we know what Chevrolet plans to charge for it, and the option price is only part of the story.

## 2027 Silverado HD diesel price: the option rises to $11,400

The available 8.3L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 costs $11,400 across all six Silverado 2500HD trims, according to Chevrolet. Its predecessor was a $9,900 option. That means selecting the diesel adds $1,500 more to the truck’s price than it did before, regardless of whether you start with a WT or a High Country.

The new engine delivers 555 horsepower and 1,230 lb-ft of torque. I took a closer look at its hardware in our [8.3L Duramax engineer walk-around](<https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2026/09/2027-gm-8-3l-duramax-diesel-engine-explained/>), including its gear-driven pumps and revised emissions equipment. That is a major part of Chevrolet’s pitch, but buyers still have to account for the truck’s higher starting price.

## The combined increase reaches $3,000

WT, Custom and LT base prices increase by $1,000. LTZ rises by $1,300, ZR2 by $1,400 and High Country by $1,500. Adding the diesel-option increase brings the combined changes to $2,500, $2,800, $2,900 and $3,000, respectively. Here is how Chevrolet’s figures break down:

| Trim | 2026 base MSRP | 2027 base MSRP | Base increase | Increase with diesel |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| WT | $46,200 | $47,200 | $1,000 | $2,500 |
| Custom | $49,500 | $50,500 | $1,000 | $2,500 |
| LT | $52,900 | $53,900 | $1,000 | $2,500 |
| LTZ | $63,600 | $64,900 | $1,300 | $2,800 |
| ZR2 | $73,500 | $74,900 | $1,400 | $2,900 |
| High Country | $73,900 | $75,400 | $1,500 | $3,000 |

Source: Chevrolet’s October 6 pricing email. Base MSRPs exclude the diesel option and destination. The last column combines the base-price increase with the $1,500 increase in the diesel option.

These are changes in the listed base MSRP plus the diesel option, before destination, other equipment, taxes or dealer charges. They are not a claim that every final transaction price will rise by exactly the same amount. Chevrolet’s email lists a $2,795 destination freight charge separately from the MSRPs.

## What the starting prices mean for your budget

Using Chevrolet’s published starting figures, a 2027 WT begins at $47,200 before destination. Add the $11,400 diesel option and $2,795 destination charge, and that calculation reaches $61,395. At the other end, the High Country’s $75,400 starting figure becomes $89,595 with those same two additions, before any other options or taxes.

Those calculations are a starting point for budgeting, not a quote for a particular cab, bed or drivetrain combination. Chevrolet’s email does not provide a complete configuration-by-configuration price sheet. Gas buyers avoid the $11,400 diesel option, although they still face the base-price increases shown above. The enhanced 6.6L gas V8 is rated at 412 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque.

## How the diesel option compares with Ford and Ram

Chevrolet also points to rack-and-pinion electric power steering, electronic brake-boost technology and updated Tow/Haul and Off-Road calibrations. The ZR2 adds an available Terrain Mode with one-pedal off-road control. You can find more on the truck through [Chevrolet’s 2027 Silverado HD page](<https://www.chevrolet.com/upcoming-vehicles/2027-silverado-hd>).

How does the 2027 Silverado HD diesel price compare with Ford and Ram? Chevrolet’s $11,400 option is below the diesel-option prices on the specific 2027 F-250 XLT and Ram 2500 Laramie listings below. This chart compares the listed engine-option charges, not total truck prices or year-over-year increases.

| 2027 truck / pricing basis | Diesel option | Option price | More than Chevrolet’s option |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, all trims per Chevrolet | 8.3L Duramax V8 | $11,400 | Reference |
| Ford F-250 XLT, listed example | 6.7L High Output Power Stroke V8 | $12,495 | $1,095 |
| Ram 2500 Laramie, listed example | 6.7L High Output Cummins inline-six | $12,995 | $1,595 |

Diesel engine-option prices checked October 6, 2026. Chevrolet: Chad Lyons’ pricing email. Ford: [Prosper Ford’s 2027 F-250 XLT listing](<https://www.prosperford.com/new/Ford/2027-Ford-F-250-2101e40fac1829bdac25aaf157983639.htm>). Ram: [All American CDJR of Midland’s 2027 Ram 2500 Laramie listing](<https://www.allamericandodgemidland.com/new/Ram/2027-Ram-2500-midland-tx-3614fab4ac180dd880c597eaa71828eb.htm>).

The Ford and Ram figures are the engine-option line items on those listings, not a promise of the same charge for every trim or configuration. Base equipment, required packages, destination, taxes and dealer pricing can change the complete-truck comparison. On these listed option prices alone, Chevrolet’s diesel costs $1,095 less than Ford’s and $1,595 less than Ram’s.

For me, the important number is the combined increase. Calling this simply a $1,500 diesel price bump leaves out another $1,000 to $1,500 that buyers will pay in the truck’s base price. The new powertrain gives us plenty to discuss, but whether the complete package justifies the extra money is something I want to explore behind the wheel.
