After walking around it and spending time behind the wheel, I kept coming back to the same question: Are you not entertained? At roughly $122,000 for the truck in my review, this is hardly a bargain pickup. What interests me is how much GMC has packed into it, from the matte finish to the steering technology and the way it accelerates. The first surprise was the finish. I thought the Magnus Gray Matte exterior was a wrap when I first looked at it. It is paint, and it gives this truck a different presence from a conventional glossy finish. The dark trim and badges work with that look instead of competing with it. Then you get close to the wheels. The 22-inch carbon fiber wheels are one of the details that make me stop and look. Carbon fiber also appears in the mirror caps and front skid-plate area. This is not a case where the special-edition name is confined to a small badge on the tailgate. GMC describes the Carbon Fiber Edition as a limited-production version of the 3X. Its [2026 model announcement]() also notes that the matte paint requires special care. That is something I would understand before buying a finish like this, especially on a truck that invites you to leave pavement. ## The Velocity Ember cabin keeps the theme going ![Red and black Velocity Ember front seats in the Hummer EV Carbon Fiber Edition]() Screenshot: Tim Esterdahl / Pickup Truck + SUV Talk. Inside, the red-and-black Velocity Ember theme is anything but subtle. There are Hummer details in the seats and door trim, along with darker metallic accents. The cabin matches the attitude of the exterior, which is exactly what I would expect at this price. Getting aboard involves a noticeable climb. I pointed out the two places I could grab as I pulled myself into the driver’s seat. Once seated, I had heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel and screens that made it straightforward to find vehicle status and energy information. The display showed 312 miles of estimated range when I filmed that part of the walkaround. That was a dashboard prediction at that moment, not a range result from my testing. I did not run a full-charge-to-empty test for this review. The accompanying video includes my Screen ProTech promotion during the screen walkthrough. For all the attention paid to acceleration, the four-wheel steering is one of the things I most enjoy about driving this Hummer. The way it makes a tight turn feels at odds with the size of the truck. That difference is immediately noticeable from the driver’s seat. I also showed the King Crab mode selection in the cabin. GMC says this low-speed off-road mode turns the rear wheels faster than the fronts to help maneuver around obstacles. It is a different feature from simply appreciating the truck’s normal four-wheel-steering behavior on a turn. The acceleration is another reminder that this is an unusual pickup. Even without selecting a special launch setting during the driving sequence, it delivered the kind of shove that made me laugh. My reaction in the video tells you more about the experience than trying to describe it as ordinary truck performance. GMC’s 2.8-second 0-to-60-mph estimate applies to the Carbon Fiber Edition pickup with the available 24-module battery and a closed-course Watts to Freedom launch. I did not measure that time or demonstrate that launch procedure. Super Cruise was another feature I appreciated during my time with the truck. On a trip to Colorado, I found the assistance made the drive less tiring. I understand the complaints about vehicles becoming too complicated, but useful technology can also take some of the workload out of a long drive. There is a distinction worth making from my wording in the video: hands-free Super Cruise operates on compatible mapped roads. Hands-on steering assistance is a separate function. [GMC’s operating guidance]() explains the conditions, and the driver still has to remain attentive. The roughly $122,000 figure was the price I cited for the reviewed truck, not a current dealer offer. I would not try to justify that number by promising fuel savings, and this review was not a charging-cost or towing comparison. The attraction is the combination of design, maneuverability and performance. What fascinates me is seeing this much ambition in a GMC pickup. Some of these touches feel like things I once would have associated with an exotic sports car. Whether that is enough to make someone buy one is another question. For me, driving it and exploring the details was entertaining.
