The automaker released a Mongoose teaser video for the new 8.3-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 headed to the refreshed 2027 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD. The name sets up a predator-versus-prey theme. In its announcement, GM takes a swipe at a cross-town rival’s diesel engine and its “scorpion” nickname, positioning the Mongoose as the challenger. ## Watch GM’s Mongoose teaser [Embedded video]() *Video courtesy of General Motors.* For now, this is a teaser rather than a full specifications announcement. GM’s release identifies the engine’s displacement and the two trucks that will use it, but does not provide horsepower, torque or towing figures.
